Got a new Cat tonight

While out walking my dog I had a rather large (tall and long) blue colored cat come up to me tonight out side my door. Now we have several ferrule cats around here but none would come up to me like that nor do anything except run if I got within a few feet. At any rate we feed it 3 bowls of food as it obviously has been around people before and is very hungry. Well after feeding her on my back porch she jumped up into my lap so I decided to look her over. Well first she shows no signs of ever having kitten and she is an adult cat. My wife suggested we see how she would get along with our animals so we put our guys up and let them out one at a time and they seemed to accept her fine other than simply following her around. My dog was the last and she ran from him so he chased until she ran out of room at which time she stopped running and he stopped chasing. He then simply sniffed her over and went and laid down. My wife got to looking at her real close and she has her front paws declawed so it looks like we have a 3rd cat now as I sure won't let her out with the outside crew unarmed. Perhaps in a few days when my son returns my camera I will take some pictures and post them.

Sounds to me that someone in your neighborhood is missing their cat. If she has been partially declawed, she is a housecat that got out. Perhaps you can call around area vets or your local police department to see if her owners are looking for her and have reported her missing. It is nice that you brought her inside and fed her. She could have been on her own for too long and without all her claws it is hard for her to hunt for food.

Got to love a new cat! IF DW had her way, we'd move to a 10 acre farm, fence it all in, and adopt EVERYTHING! :yum:

Congrats, joe! Even if the owner shows up to claim her, you are a peach to take her in and keep her safe in the meantime!

She is as tall as my dog which is the tallest domestic cat I've ever seen and very long too. She looks like she hasn't eaten in a while as she ate 3 cans of food pretty quickly before stopping. As for a neighbor I have no idea since I'm sounded by stores and she had no collar but will keep an ear to the ground. At any rate next week will take her to the Vet to see how she is physically over all.

I have no idea what to call her yet but my wife has just called her Ms. Kitty. I couldn't get anything into the picture to give a good comparison of her size but the bed is the single bed in my grand daughter's room.

Oh my gosh, Joe, she's really elegant, isn't she? Is her disposition still as mellow as last night? She certainly looks as if she's made herself at home - I think she's staying!

Yes she is mellow. My wife gave her a bath last night without any problem as she simply stood there and even seemed to like it. After she dried out the boys, who she is much bigger than simply would sniff and hiss but no fighting. The dog as been hovering around her all this morning and she hasn't run so he is just lays down as close as he can get. His legs are a bit short to be jumping up on beds. She used the litter box this morning without incident with the other cats and they allowed her at their bowl with them. She has been following my wife and I around all morning now.

She sounds like the perfect house cat, Joe. I'm so glad she found your door.

You know, she looks a lot like a Russian Blue so maybe you could give her a Russian name that suits her like Natasha or Oxsana or Nikita?

Thanks for the suggestions FM. I just looked Russian Blue up and I'm convinced you are dead on with the breed. She meets all of the standards including personality.

Yes, she is a gorgeous girl and that is a very expensive breed. I am so happy that someone so kind and caring found her, joec. You are very sweet to care and take her for a check up. If her owner is not looking for her, I think she is the luckiest Miss Kitty in the world to have found you and dw.

good fortune comes to those who loves and cares for stray animals joe. good on ya!

names for the new cat: smokey, midnight, ms. ruskie, bloouie, stretch, ...

I might just wait till my official cat namer grand son comes over this weekend. He is the on that named both Bird and Dog my other too cats. This one has been sitting on floor by my computer all morning with my dog sitting right beside her so they seem to get along fine. My two boys are still a bit leery of her but knowing them in a couple of days I'm sure they will be back to play as usual. At least they allowed her to eat with them this morning without incident.
