Queen of Cornbread
6 to 8 Granny Smith apples or other good baking apple, cored and sliced (you can peel them if you want)
1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
In a large cast iron skillet or other heavy bottom pan, melt the butter. Add the apples, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Stir and saute for 15 to 20 minutes until apples are tender. This is a great side dish for breakfast or any other meal and makes a wonderful topping on ice cream with a little caramel sauce on top!
