Expanding my fleet of Boston Whalers

I'm now the proud owner of Boston whaler harpoon 5.2 she's a little rough and needs some work but the hull is sound with new scuppers and new wood seats. The support for the mast that you see in the picture will have to be remade it was split and I put some screws in it for the ride home. I bought this just south of Phoenix and ended up being a 16 hour trip with three or four of it spent talking with the previous owner. The top deck and rails have quite a bit of spider cracking but not deep enough to let water in I may or may not fix this. I plan on just having fun with her this summer and see how enthused I get about sailing. LOA is 17'0" or 5.2 m / L WL 15'0" or 5.62 m/ one of the things that impressed me about this Boston whaler was it's beam 7'6" huge for the length of this vessel. The mast I believe it is fairly tall at 25 feet from its seat. The boat came with the original mainsail made by North sails and a spinnaker red top white middle and blue bottom also made by North sails. But one of the big selling points to me was, the brand-new jib and mainsail which to my knowledge have never been used. The harpoon 5.2 also came with a 1992 3 hp two cycle outboard which looks to be in great shape for its age and I don't think it's ever been in salt water by the looks of it. The stern mount for this engine needs to be sanded and varnished or I just may make a new one. The previous owner was a great guy named Mike and he and I had the most happiest days of our life yesterday he sold the boat and I bought it LOL

Pretty neat. At one time, I lived in a lake community in NJ. I had a sunfish. Not a big boat, but, I had a lot of fun in it.

Guts have fun with your new boat. I'm green with envy. I would love to have a small sail boat. Dad would take all of us to Newport each summer for a week. We sailed, rented paddle boards, and body surfed. We even swam the channel near where the ferry goes across. I don't remember how wide the channel was there but it was a good distance.

This should tell you about my age then. I never knew Boston Whaler made a sail boat but was very familiar with they multi hull run abouts. The only sail boats though that I've ever owned was a 16' catamaran and a 60' Endeavor Catch rig ocean going sail boat. Both owned in the early 80's and lived aboard the 60' for about a year.

Congrats. She sure is clean. :thumb:
Boating season is fast approaching for us here in Ohio. Is yours a year round season out there in paradise?
