Resident Crone
I made a cake for a going away party yesterday, and dug up a real old-fashioned recipe for the frosting, that my mother used to make.
It's very light with a texture a bit like whipped cream, but a little bit thicker. Not too sweet, which is why I chose it. It's often called flour frosting or boiled frosting.
I hadn't made it in many years, so I used the King Arthur recipe from their website. If you are ever looking for something not-too-sweet, this is a good one.

Ermine Frosting (Cooked Flour Frosting)
This old-fashioned cooked-flour frosting, often known as ermine frosting or ermine icing, features a delightfully airy texture very similar to that of whipped cream. Make today with King Arthur.
