E-cigarettes: Success story

When we found out Amanda was pregnant, i promised her that before the baby was born that i would quit. So about September i started my journey of being a non smoker.

At first i started out with the e-cigarettes that you buy at 7-11, best $20 i ever spent. That cheap set-up(which i still have and still works), made me realize that e-cigs could actually work for me. But i knew that i needed a better set up that wasnt so expensive and more reliable.

Over the next month i had only smoked about 1 pack..Down from 1 1/2 packs a day.

Skip another month forward. The journey was still difficult but not too bad. Still continue to vape and smoke a few cigarettes but nothing i was ashamed of.

Novemeber 2nd was a bad day(no need to get into that :) ) i started smoking again. i felt so ashamed, i had almost quit entirely. But a close friend on here, told me not to worry that i had gone through a big trajedy.

On November 28th 2011 at 1pm i smoked my last cigarette...i still intend to keep my promise to Amanda..i want to be healthy, and not stink up the van anymore..lol

so as of this posting i have been 9 days 19 hours smoke free, $85.49 saved and have avoided smoking 311 cigarettes.

there are so many flavors, so many choices. And boy does food taste really great now. :)

That's WONDERFUL Jeff! Congratulations! I remember when I quit....it was one of the most difficult things I've ever done. No shame in a minor setback...especially under the circumstances.

Congrats Jeff!!! Way to go.

The biggest obstacle I had when quitting was I had to want to quit. I quit literally 100's of times but always could justify buying another pack for some insane reason. Once my mind was made up that was it. No going back. I had to prove it to myself that I could do it, and by jove I did. That was over 25 years ago. One of the best decisions I ever made.

Boy, cigs were sure a lot cheaper back then. A pack now costs more than a carton did back then. Crazy. If you can do without one this minute there is nothing that should change and make you need one the next minute. minute by minute you can do it. You need to get to the 3 month stage to feel you got it whipped. It will get easier once you get there. I promise.

I quit back in 1994 when we moved from NY to VA. It was relatively easy since I was mostly a "social" smoker, my husband never smoked, & since we didn't know a soul in VA, I really didn't have the social-habit-connection to smoke. I think the connections are the hardest part - cigarette with morning coffee, cigarette after a meal, cigarette with a cocktail, etc., etc. If I hadn't had the opportunity of the out-of-state move to sort of cut that off, I don't think it would have been as easy.

Congrats, Bams. Curious about your setup. Bought e-cigs on line & cost a bundle. I still have the whole kit in a drawer. Just didn't do it for me. As Doc said, you gotta be ready to quit.

FWIW, I've had toe surgery, been to the er & all I hear about is my smoking, & asked to sign a lengthy form upon my release about smoking. I declined. Guess I'm a bit of a rebel, but, I will quit when & if I'm ready.

Guess this is a sore spot for me right now, as one surgeon walked away from follow up due to same, & insisted that I have a primary care physician. I requested my er records, & it went on repeatedly about my smoking & how much. It had nothing to do with my foot/toe problem.

As a result of the quakadoodle foot surgeon ranting about my smoking & not having a PCP, I went to motion pix rinky dink HMO. They took an xray, then told me they found a node/nodule, & want me to go for yet another catscan. At this stage of my life, I feel I will live the way I chose.

In my day docs smoked as well. What I'm trying to say is this - do what is good for you, & quit if and when you are ready - don't let society, the gov, docs, or anyone else tell you what is right or good for you.

My feeling right now is, I don't want to hear about cancer tumors or allow anyone to cut me open, again. I don't attribute problems with my toe to smoking, yet my medical records (I finally got), go on & on about it.

Again congrats, & do what is right for you.

The questions and concern they show about you smoking are all thanks to Obama-care. My latest doctors visit they had to ask AGAIN and if the answer is yes they are required by law to offer up things that could help you with quitting. They have to document each visit and document what they said to you, and probably your response.

After some tests I had to wait forever in a specialists office for my followup appointment. Over 2 hours of waiting. Once I finally got back I asked what the problem was. It was paperwork that is now required that they do for every patient. They don't care if we smoke or are overweight but they have to ask the questions and offer solutions whether you want to hear it or not.

the biggest thing about actually using these, is that you have to be able to control your nicotine levels...if they are too low, then you will always crave the real thing.

i am also curious what kind of kit you still have in your drawer.

my set up is called a JoyE Ego-T
the link i have is basically what i have but i have bigger batteries and use a bigger tank system that provides me with liquid(so i dont have to fill it so much), hotter burn which helps with what us smokers desiring a 'throat hit"

when i desire a smoke now, i just take a couple of puffs on my PV(personal vapor) and that quickly goes away.

if you need any help please dont hesitate to ask. And if you decide to try again please let me know before you buy anything, i have discount codes for most all good suppliers of ecigarettes..they offer lots of deals on another forum i am on.

i am under the same name here... lots of good people... lots of encouragement..lots of info

A relative of mine still raves about how good food tastes. They'd smoked 1-3 packs a day since they were a teenager and after finally quitting a few decades later, they packed on the stereotypical post-quitting-smoking pounds. He said he was perfectly okay with it, though, because he realized it was because he was simply enjoying food more now that he could finally taste what everyone else was. <3

great job!
these seem to work. i know they've grown in popularity in recent years.

i quit a few years ago. i think 3, w/ ex-jack rarely making me a bali shag that i'd stamp after a few. the anxiety wasn't a worthy trade for the benefit.

not to speak for u, though i susupect you'll get to be further appreciative, & get why this vice kept u in it's clutch. why letting it be was a blessing.

i already know why i kept smoking... i liked smoking..lol

seriously it was because i am addicted to nicotine. i have no hidden meaning as to why i kept smoking or why i did smoke.

yep me, too. lol.
wasn't preaching- i was speaking of physical addiction & benefits of relinquishing your vice.

I did not know that. Thanks, Doc. Didn't Obama recently quit smoking? Nothing like a reformed smoker to preach etc.

Thanks for the link, Bams. Will explore when/if I'm ready. Again, I wish you much success.

Just an added thought, Doc. I found the hospital to be hypocritical. They presented me with lenghty forms to sign re smoking upon dishcharge, but the nurse told me she took patients outside for a smoke. I waited & waited, & it didn't happen. I just wanted to get outta Dodge & light up. IMO, they admitted me only because they saw $$$ with my insurance cards. I was already on antibiotics, & felt sicker when I was released from the hospital, than when I went in. Enough said.
