Duck eggs!!!

My plumber (and former co-worker) and I were discussing the Asian supermarket in our town and he mentioned that he buys duck eggs there. He convinced me to try some, so I bought a half dozen and did a side-by-side comparison with a large chicken egg.

As far as I can tell, the duck egg is bigger and takes longer to cook, but there is no difference in flavor.

I fried the eggs in butter, and put the duck egg in a minute before the chicken egg. Should have been at least 2 minutes, maybe 2 1/2, because I had to take out the chicken egg while the duck egg finished cooking.

Delicious breakfast! And FILLING!

I am going to try hard boiling a couple, too. For chicken eggs, I bring them to a boil, take them off the heat for 20 minutes, then plunge them in ice water.

I'll have to look up hard boiled duck eggs.

Great post! Some people say duck eggs taste richer. I've never had one. How did they compare in price?
 
i see those when i'm buying groceries & considered buying a few. btw, i bought a quailegg & named that egg, haha.
 
I have not seen duck eggs anyplace I shop.

The regional supermarket near me has quail eggs. Cute little things. I would have no idea what to do with them.

You often see them used on catering menus. Fried, then laid on top of appetizers - steak tartar comes to mind. The proportion of yolk to white is higher than a chicken egg, so they are richer & creamier.

They also often appear on top of salads.
