We are born with two fears, the fear of falling and loud noises. Do you have any strange fears?

The interpretation of strange is 100% up to each of you.

While not a strange fear, snakes and I do not get along!!!:eek::hide2::cry::nono1::chicken:

I don't know if it's a phobia, but I hate unexpectedly getting wet. Bathing, washing up, swimming, other activities, I'm fine. Spilling a drink, dog kisses, getting splashed, ugh, I hate it.

I am afraid of a certain time when it hits a clock......I always happen to look at a clock when it hits this time and I always had a sinking feeling something bad was going to happen one day at that time! So I practiaclly hold my breath each time until it changes to the next minute.....

I hate elevators. I was stuck in one for what seemed like an eternity. It was probably only about 15 minutes though. Sometimes, if I just have to get on an elevator and people pile in there, I get off. Lol--I'm also afraid of going over the weight limit, and the elevator plunging to the bottom.

Fear of heights below 40 stories and hate spider's more than anything on the planet. Other than those to not much else makes me queasy.

i don't know if it's a phobia, but i get this really weird feeling that something's drawing me over the edge when i'm on the roof of a skyscraper working on a camera or dish, or on a cliff when i go hiking. i mean. i have to concentrate on not going over too far.

i'm also terrified of sharks. i get nervous when i swim in the ocean, even this far north. fuggedabout florida, or mexico.

the last time we were in florida, dw and i hired a small boat to take us shell picking on inacessible beaches near captiva island. we jumped off the boat in chest deep water, and dw went up on shore as i snorkled around, looking for sand dollars and fancy whelks.

i heard the captain of the boat shout, so i stood up - now up to my neck, and saw a school of small fish go ripping past and through my legs. the captain said very calmly, "just stand still, don't move".

a second or two later, two large grey masses passed me chasing the fish, one on either side.

i think i levitated straight up and walked on the water to get back in the boat once they were gone. i didn't tell dw until she was back onboard, or she's still be on that beach to this day.

Oh lord BT!! I would have died!!

Heights are mine. not weird, just annoying to me.
My other is more OCD, lol, I won't get in a bed that isn't made!!

I don't really have any phobias.

Hey Bucky, wanna get a kayak and go fishing for sharks w/ me out of the 'yaks?

ROFL, just kidding. Believe it or not, that actually are some crazy folks down in Texas that do just that!

I thought everyone had this feeling BT. Not sure though. If it's a phobia, I have it too.

My wife and one daughter and her husband are all terrified of spiders. That's one I do not understand. I used to be scared of snakes but when we moved to the country 12 years ago I resolved to get over that. I have since picked up small snakes and walked away from other snakes I've seen. Used to be I'd have to kill them. I've come to understand they do more good there than not, so I let em be (in the woods ...in the house would be another story). I was clearing some brush this past weekend (with my tractor) I pulled into a pile and look to the side and there a rat snake was in the top of the brush looking over at me and hissing. He was a 5 or 6 footer. I took the current load of brush away and came back to the brush he was in. You should have seen him diving for the ground when I picked up the brush pile where he was. I lost track of him but did not intentionally harm him. (note, I'm picking up this brush pile with my front end loader ....not my arms or nothing silly like that). I'm sitting comfortably a few feet away from the critter.

note: rat snakes are much like black snakes only they have a very white or silver belly. They like to climb trees and will lay stretched out on the limb. Hard to see. Generally will not harm a human AFAIK. I've seen big fat 6 footers. Not sure how big they can get.

I have a fear that, while I'm standing in line at the bank, it will be robbed and the robber will force me to cash my check and give him the proceeds. It doesn't change my behavior, but I don't endorse my checks until I'm at the counter and I think about it every time.

My wife is a bundle of phobias, but they're mostly normal ones, especially fear of fire and spiders. She once had a panic attack because I had two computers plugged into an outlet and it was going to cause an electrical fire.

Also, the phobia list is missing a couple:

Luposlipaphobia - The fear of being pursued by timber wolves around a kitchen table whilst wearing socks on a newly waxed floor.

Anatidaephobia - fear that somewhere, somehow, a duck is watching you.

Scropians. HATE THEM!!!!!

My dad used to hold me over the octopus tank at the zoo.... pretending that he was going to drop me so they give me the creeps too.

I would get put of the water if there were sharks, as well. Had an ex BF that was a scuba diver. He told me he would poke at the shaks w/ a harpoon thingy. I thought he was nuts. I may be wrong, but don't think sharks will attack unless they are hungry or smell blood.

Ticks.
But I have an EXCELLENT excuse... my first camping trip as a Scout, age 10, got home and found 3 of the bastards attached to someplace that no male ever wants a tick attached. No, not there, but a bit lower. AND MY MOTHER HAD TO REMOVE THEM.
So that is an explainable one, LOLOL!

My wife the biology teacher at the time had a BIG phobia of spiders, but wanted a tarantula as a class pet. I told her, while she was looking at them in a store, that as soon as she could hold one, we'd buy one.
Damn if 20 minutes later the thing wasn't crawling up her arm. We named it Octavia.
Very cool spider. Did you know tarantulas molt, leaving an empty skin behind? Neato!

Holy crap - me, too!!! I didn't know anyone else had this fear and it sounds kind of crazy to explain it, doesn't it? Even thinking about being up high near an edge makes me get cold and clammy. I have only recently gotten to where I can drive over high bridges or overpasses without feeling dizzy and short of breath out of fear I will somehow drive off.

Drowning phobia but I like to swim. I get pretty nervous in the ocean but I like to body surf....maybe just deep ocean water phobia?

If I get on one of my motorcycles it HAS to be from the left side. If I happen to get on from the right I get back off and hop on from the left.

A strong, irrational fear. I don't think I have any phobias, really, but I don't enjoy public speaking in certain circumstances. Small groups where I really know the material - I'm fine. Larger groups and I may not have had time to prepare, or don't feel as if I've had enough time - hate it.

So you are the one at the head of the line slowing things up.

I'm not particularly fond of going over bridges that are particularly high, and I really don't like bridges that go over water.

I also don't like really big things (and get your minds out of the gutter:wink:)....The Hoover Dam terrified me, both at the top and at the bottom. I don't like big ferris wheels. The thought of going to the top of the empire state building and then going outside is more than I can stand. I won't ever take a cruise because the ocean is too deep. I don't want to be on the top of a mountain. I don't think I could ever be at the exact spot of the north or south pole and stand there. I'd have to lie flat so I wouldn't fall off. I've been to the Grand Canyon and almost got sick looking at it. If I ever actually saw an iceberg I'd pass out. Hard to categorize this, but it's pretty much things that are so big it's hard to wrap your head around...

I don't have any strange phobias, just a couple of the common ones that have been mentioned: heights (I wonder why so many of us feel drawn to the edge?), and I get skivved out by snakes.

So I said "no".

Coulrophobia- Fear of clowns

I hate snakes, but wouldn't call it a phobia because I don't think it's irrational!

I'm actually very fond of reptiles in all their forms. Used to keep snakes as a kid till a poisonous one got out while I was away. My grandmother caught it with a towel and put it back at that point I got rid of all the poisonous species from my collection. Now at the time I lived in South Florida which is the snake capital of the world.

Me too. My dad had a boa constrictor when I was a kid - he kept it in his Army footlocker with a mesh top. I used to play with it and took the skin to school for show and tell. When I was in high school, a friend's boyfriend had a snake - she was terrified of it. At a party at his house once, I wrapped it around my waist and carried it around

my boy is obsessed with snakes. we read a book about it every night. boas, pythons, rattlesnsakes, garter snakes, etc...

he's been trying to talk me into getting him a ball python that we saw at the pet shop.

As a kid my best friend's father bought part of the venom side of the business from the Serpentarium owned by Bill Haast. He bought the World Reptiles. His cousin used to fly around the world catching snake for their venom which is used in a lot of medicines. We used to work their during the summer vacations and both of us got really into snakes. Another buddy later went on to become a snake handler for the movie industry after working for Ivan Tours for a few years. I've lost track over the years of both of these guys but had great times as kids catching snakes.

The place is still around though has changed a lot. http://www.miamiserpentarium.com/
