I went garage sale-ing yesterday.
7am - 66 homes in a development - nothing good
8am - 5 more - bought 1 pair of garden snips $.25 and a pair of 3' clamps $.50
9am - maybe 30-35 people waiting in the chilly morning.
9AM! that's really late. And they kept us waiting and waiting! What, they had to make breakfast, do the dishes and make the beds???????? Well they finally opened and IT WAS JUST THE GARAGE!!! Nothing really. 30+ people trying to croud in a one car garage with just some florida furniture stuff in it. ( The house was sold and these were the reminents) But my mom said if you like something, grab it. You can alway put it back when you've decided against it.
I grabbed a lamp. It was a small table lamp with a cast iron base. The shade was glass with a painted scene of a cowboy on a horse silohette with a yellow backround and the rest of the globe is a blue yellow brown cloud type backround. It only takes a 40 watt bulb, tops. Cute for $3.00. I love unique lamps. I don't know any young gentlemen, but I couldn't pass it up.
FOR $3.00?

Anyway, from there it was the supermarket.
Ricotta and mozzerella was on sale. Each $3.00 Normally $4.09 and $4+. So I decided I would make mezza luna ravioli.

I bought hot italian sausage, chopmeat mix for meatballs, and a ham hock and a chicken breast-bone in, all for sauce.

I came home and cooked all the meat and started the sauce.

I pooped out after that.
After walking the weiner dog and eating a sandwich, I took a nap.
A NAP! LOL! I slept til 11:42 last night!
I was wipped out after not being out for a couple 3 weeks after being sick.
So now I have made all my ravioli. and put each of them on parchment paper in the freezer to be cooked.

And now I'm ready for another nap.

What say you?

I'm ready for a nap just reading what you've done!!!

I have no idea for dinner yet........it may be either boned-in pork roast or city chicken (although we had this not too long ago). I don't even know if I'll be home around dinner time. lol If I get off my ass I could probably make some hamburger soup. I'll catch up on this later. Decisions, decisions......

Yeah I'll say, busy day yesterday Calico.

I'm thinking of grilling some babybacks today. It's still early, but that's the plan. I probably ought to make the coleslaw soon....

I started marinating/brining a pork shoulder last night in water, OJ, salt, sugar and garlic - a Cuban preparation. Will roast it and serve it with ??? Not sure - I don't do beans, so no black beans and rice. Maybe rice, but what else? Any ideas?

no beans? no idea ... but i bet that pork will make some great cuban sammies ...

i am going to do reverse sear steak on the grill today .. got some really nice looking
NY strips ..
will also grill keilbasa for the little one ..
with it .. i am making foil packet potatoes at wifeys request ...
also going to have a salad and maybe some broccoli ....

I have a bunch of herbs I need to use up...

so I am going to make pesto with the cilantro, parsely and basil and a tomato sauce with the Oregano and Thyme

not sure which one I will eat tonight.

Flat iron steak for sure, and maybe one of the scalloped tater recipes that HC and Jeeks posted.

Keep rubbing it in girl!!!!!!!! :bangin:

Hope you're having a great time!

We are! It's a little cooler than normal but that's not stopping us from enjoying life. It's so good seeing all our friends and catching up with everyone! It really is like coming HOME.

Jeff G.'s pork loin tonight with mashed taters, broccoli and some of that Outback Steakhouse brown bread.

I'm making some homemade pork/vegetable egg/spring rolls with rice tonight :chef:

Braised English cut short ribs in red wine and home made lamb stock with a chipotle/mushroom sauce on a bed of mashed potatoes.

I made a turkey yesterday, so I may make some turkey/veg/noodle soup for dinner, add some good french rolls and I'm a happy camper :)

Took DW to Red Lobster (aka Crimson Crawdad :D )

I had Salmon New Orleans, and she had every kind of shrimp on the menu!

Nothing like some comfort food on a snowy Sunday in February. We're out of soup in the freezer, otherwise that would have been did-din for us also. Neither one of us wanted to cook today, so I agreed to pan fry a chicken booby if she would throw some greens together. Turned out pretty good with the hearts of Romain that were on sale yesterday. Oh, almost forgot the ubiquitous homemade bread.

Mamma's RagTop Sandwiches

They're a version of Po'Boy.....

Take a bottom round roast and slow cook in broth and wine for about 4 hours. Pull it apart and cook another hour or so.

Take 8" hero rolls...add roasted garlic oil and broil for a moment or two.

Spread mayonnaise (still have some of the homemade:bounce:), shredded lettuce, pickle slices, rare roast beef, baked ham slices, the shredded beef and au jus, top with the top of the roll.

Made mashed potatoes to go with it.

Still have the homemade vanilla bean custard ice cream and bread pudding for dessert.

Well, finally wrapped up our weekend. Ugg lots of fun but I am completely tired out and need to take a break... or two... or three... so we had pizza and pop with tres leches cake for dessert (well, we did kids had smores).

It took the better part of the day. I had my mind set on a combination of lamb stock and red wine as the braising liquid, but my POS supermarket doesn't carry lamb stock. so I bought a couple cheapo cuts of bone in lamb, added some mire poix, roasted and made my own.

The ribs braised in a combination of mire poix (leeks), red wine, lamb stock, mushrooms, herbs and a tiny bit of chipotle. I made a bed of mashed potatoes with only butter, cream, salt and pepper. The base of the sauce was the braising liquid thickened with corn starch. The whole dish, with stock, took just over 6 hours. No knife needed.
