2 pounds of fresh green beans
6 slices of bacon, cut into small pieces
3 tablespoons of brown sugar
1/2 cup of water
salt and pepper to taste

Clean and remove the ends from your green beans (as well as any strings). Set aside.

In a large skillet, cook the bacon until crisp. Add the brown sugar, green beans and water. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, simmer cvered about 15 minutes or so until the beans are tender but still crisp. Add salt and pepper to taste (the amount of salt you will need depends upon how salty your bacon is). Remove from the pan with a slotted spoon. That's it!

I make these all the time but have never added the brown sugar. I bet that makes them even better. Thanks for the idea!!!

I've never added the sugar either. I usually finish my green beans by sauteing in EVOO, but the brown sugar glaze is on my list now.

wow you read my mind!! I was just thinking today of how I can make green beans on Friday when my future mother in-law is coming for dinner. I love the bacon but I'm not sure since "she doesn't eat pork" (even though she has asked me to bake her pork chops before!!)

I love mine!! I really do!! But sometimes I feel the same way. Some day I'll tell you the bleach story!!

Oh I adore her as well...as long as the visits are spread out and no more than 2 days long!
Befor we even moved into our house she started a rumor that WE invited her to move in with us......huh, who, what????

My fiance always jokes that if it were up to her we would all live in a large house like on Dallas, all her children and grand children together under one roof so we could all constantly fight and make up over and over again....her own little soap opra where she is queen of the house and catered to!!:hide2::nono1:

Mine would love that too... with out the fighting though. She just wants us all there to feed us and tell us how to do EVERYTHING!! lol. It's so funny she means well but she's getting a little old and dippy... her ideas are getting strange!

oh I know all about that!! growing up my step grandmother use to live with us and suddenly when I was 17 and graduated from High school she would come into my room yelling at me that it was way past my bedtime and I better turn the lights out or else.......at 9 pm.......I knew then it was time for me to move out on my own!!

LOL.. she's not that dippy yet... she just gets an idea in her head and won't let go.

Like she's a nurse..very smart but... for some reason insists that a certain med will work for me in shot form (I've had the pill and nasal spray) because it worked for a friend of hers. I can't convince her that it won't... I've tried Paul's tried and yet every time I see her I get the lecture... and lol when she talks she won't use names any more she only use pronouns so you NEVER know who in the world she's talking about...it gets so hard not to laugh..(and be sad)

getting old IS sad and scary sometimes. But as they often say We come into this world with the mind of a chiild, and often leave the same way!

Awww I think we owe our inlaws a hug!!!!

Is it safe to assume that this thread has wandered off topic? :wall:

Geez, I thought there were a dozen more posts on green beans. :yum:

Green beans are soooo green!!.......Hows that?Does that work??

Me too, Trish. In fact, I made them last night. But I wish I had seen this before because the brown sugar sounds so good. Thanks, Mama.
