Well gang, College time is almost up on me, and I will be taking photography 101 and the lab 101,

Right now I will not be taking photography again once the first semester is over, The second semester will be inductory to baking and then I will go ahead and take inductory to professional cooking as well

I want to learn as much as possible so I can open a pizza joint I think would do really well I would allow no shoes, no shirts, and pet's Ok maybe not pet's but the place would be so causal.

That's pretty much my main goal.

I ken the no shoes or shirts part. Trouble with no shirts is that pizza sauce is hot.......and drips.....and..................

Sounds cool Derek! I wish you luck with it!

Just out of curiosity, I can see the cooking classes for the pizza joint, but why the photography? Just a hobby or interest?

Yuppers, Photography is a hobby of mine and the class will teach me how to create a professional portfolio.

Thank you gang, I know this will probably be a 2-4 year indevure but "Bring it on"

Mav, Derek had expressed interest in food photography--making things look amazing and taking the shots--like for magazines and stuff.

Ps, Your %100 correct, but my long life goal is to open a pizza joint.

There is 2 people I wouldn't serve though, and I'm not going to say anything here since I don't want the thread to become political. And it's not the Obama's

They would be welcomed.

That is nice to do that. I had a 'full ride' in college and it was nice being able to concentrate on studies and a social life!

Nice mav, What was your major?

And how hard was college to you? My brother said the hardest pat of college to him was staying in school when it was a super nice day!

Oh yeah gang, I don't want to be like these people who go to college and study all their lives and then just get a job that pays minimum wage!

I really don't want that to happen to me.

I majored in education at the University of Iowa. I completed the College of Liberal Arts and was waiting to get into the College of Education so I took some political science courses.
Then, I got laid up by a virus in my spinal cord. I was supposed to be on my parents insurance but turned out I wasn't so by the time I got out of the hospital I had missed two semesters and had $150,000 in medical bills.
They wrote off about $100,000 of that, but I had to pay the rest. So, off to work I went as there was no way I could pay for college (I lost my scholarships because I was out for two semesters) and pay that bill.
Never had the chance to go back.
College was easy for me. It was all about regurgitating what the professors lectured so as long as you could repeat it back to them you did good, LOL. But yea, being in a lecture hall on a sunny day was hard!

Well It might be easy for me as well, I;m a bit of a study geek when I really get into something and go full bore into it.

Like I've said I don't want to go to college for like 2-4 years gain all that knowledge and then just get a low pay job and be happy, I want to use mu education as soon as I am done with college, God will let me know when I'm done with college though.

By the way Mav, Sorry to hear about your back!

Well not if you already have insurance, LOL. Just make sure it is full coverage so you don't have to worry about hospitalization should something happen.

It is, If it wasn't I would have a hard time paying off my pacemaker That thing was about 80k alone then $10k for the operation, Thank god for medicade.

But I will take anything the college will offer me though.

I agree it is great to hear someone starting out with dreams. Hope they all come true and will be pulling for you. :thumb:

Derek,

Don't even think about opening a business until you get your degree in SOMETHING!. Be sure you take business courses so you don't get yourself in trouble financially. Either that, or partner with someone with proven business skills. Keep in mind that 80% of new restaurant businesses fail within the first two years. I hope you are part of the 20%, but keep in mind you need a solid business plan and financial backing to go into a business. The bankers want to know that you know what you're doing if they are going to risk their capital on your venture.

BTW, check with the health department about your no shirt-no shoes idea. They are the final say, not you. FYI, I wouldn't eat in a place with those relaxed standards, and I'm the type of clientele that will pay your bills, not the dirt poor no shirt-no shoes crowd.

Me too Joe, I don't mind the 2-4 years in college as long as I get some type of job that's a direct route from my education!

Even becoming a baker and baking all day long would be acceptable.

That is good advice from JoeV. Also, make sure you have enough cash reserved to run for several months once you open.

Your correct Joe, I would go around the proper channels first, By the way had a business once with a lady friend of mine and it didn't work out,

So I would hire my family. I would just pay Brain in coctails, Peter in vehicles, and Stewy in evil genius gadget's

LOl kidding about the family guy plug.

That's where college experience would come and and college stipits "I hope we're still in good shape by the time I need a stip it and or a grant"

Well today I've paid for everything at the college and my balance was was $134 now I'm very strapped and I'm not sure what I'm going to do for books in June.

I'll come up with something!

You are way ahead of the game, Derek, since you already know what you want to do when you finish college. I know you can do it, my friend!

Is this your first semester in college? It's so exciting, isn't it? 2 of my sons just started in January and they are having a wonderful time. Like you, they are able to attend fulltime without working (so far, at least). They are already planning the summer classes they want to take and having fun researching which profs to avoid and which are awesome.

Keep sharing your college life with us - I really enjoy hearing about it.
