Just an fyi to those of you attempting to stay ahead of the curve. I receive a number of paid subscription news letters from research firms studying commodity costs in the food business. It appears Beef prices will rise by around 30% starting early in the year, 2011.
FWIW, I just bought a case of Prime Strips at $8.00 per pound. At the beginning of this year, I paid around $5.00 for #1 Prime, and did get a box at $3.85 that was cut wrongly. I was told I can expect to pay upwards of $12.00 a pound at some point next year by a major packer.
We buy beef trim. Historical highs lately have been in the $1.50 range; we were told to expect $2-$2.25 for the same product next year.
