I prefer my wood bikes to have a motor.
That way you can outrun the Pandas....

Well now they have "adults" doing it, but when I was a kid, the safety patrol crossing guards at the busy intersections would get a bamboo pole to hold the throngs back. About ten ft long.
And I don't know how I acquired one, but I have one of those poles right now. Maybe I'll make a unicycle from it ;^)

That is really ingenious use of available materials.

Keltin I can relate to the Kendo Shinai as I have a couple around here I've been beaten on by my instructor when I was learning Kendo. Even with the padding they can hurt like hell if it is a solid hit. I'm also proficient with a bow which is nothing more that a long pole and used to train with a shaft made of bamboo.

My instructor always told me “the crap you see on movies with guys slinging swords all over the place is just that……crap”. He said that a true master would observe the basic rule of all martial arts – economy of motion, and would make small and fast cuts. He said you didn’t need a flashy big hit to take the opponent down, several small cuts on the largest of oak trees will take it down the same as a chainsaw.

As such, he taught me quick to guard and be mindful of your fingers! I can’t count the number of times I got popped on my hands where I held the Shinai. Dammit!!!

I love the Bo, and it is the only weapon I ever competed with in Kata Form competition. Another myth bout the Bo got busted the day I learned to use it. Never take both hands off of it. That spinning stuff in one hand you see on TV is for the movies and not real life. Amazing how many movies just tanked after I started the Martial Arts!

I can't remember the last Martial Arts movie I saw and have never been a fan of boxing, wrestling or the new mixed martial arts. My youngest son has an MMA school teaching it in this area and I've only been in once in the last year. Once most people start studying they see the movie versions for what they are, impossible as well as much of the myths exposed..

Yes the one with the motor kind of reminds me of the go karts we built as a kid using lawn mower engines. Steering was done with the feet and speed control was with a hand stick pushing to tighten the belt from the motor to the rear axle. Down right dangerous as stopping was either hit something, wait till is slowed down enough to put feet on the ground or jumping off it.
