Anyone else running Internet Explorer 8?

High Cheese

Saucier
I installed it a couple weeks ago and love it. The main improvement is the right click menu. Instead of copying/pasting something into Google, I can just highlight , right-click and search on Bing. Also on the right click menu is "Map with Live Search" where you just highlight an address, right click and select the map option, it automatically brings up a map for you. I was using that yesterday when I was browsing the real estate market. When the map came up I could switch to satellite image and see first hand what the neighborhood looked like.

I tried other browsers but they crashed the same as with IE. I think I had/have an issure with Java or one of the plug-ins.

With IE8, it will automatically restore a crashed browser within a second or 2.

I just installed 8 a week ago or so. I don't use the new features yet, but I've noticed some changes that I like. What I don't like about a lot of the new installs out there is that they all want to install a toolbar. I run a Google toolbar and don't need IE8's toolbar or AVG's toolbar. I'm pretty careful now to disable a lot of features on new installs, which obviously means I can't take advantage of a lot they are offering. Hell, I don't even know what a "feed" is. Why would I want live feeds? lol

I'm running IE 8 and have tried them all just to come back to IE. I find it the least trouble some of them all. I will never down load another browser except IE again. I use the IE Pro Plug-in as well as a few other such as IE Spell without any problems. IE has been and still remains the fastest browser I've ever used. Oh and I started with the first Netscape browser to hit the market years ago and switched to IE 1 when it came out.

On various computers I have IE 6,7 & 8. I alsu use Firefox at home, just loaded 3.5. I have Google Chrome on a couple machines. Each of them has neat features. None of them jumps up abd says "I am the greatest". I have read a lot of opinions from proponents of each browser. Seems to me that it just comes down to what you like.

I have had to remove IE8 from a few machines as other things stopped working after it was loaded.

Related subject - A co-Worker loaded Windows & Release Candidate on her laptop and it nuked. I have the software. I am looking for a computer that I can test it on. I don't want to test it on anything production. LOL

Good advise never to test a new OS on a production critical machine. I also looking at the new version of windows but won't try it till it has been out awhile before putting it on my home machine. Now if it works there fine then I will put it on the office machine. My main restraint is running Office XP developer software as all my business software is written in that version of Office. It wouldn't run under Vista so I had to go and purchase a copy of XP Pro to run it.

Also, to be considered is that not all websites work with all browsers. For example, visit www.statesupplyprops.com with IE, you will see a page, visit with Firefox or an Apple and you only see the background. Also Chrome does not render a page.

Websites are often generated that are browser specific, or the better ones will querry the browser being used and change their code to match the browser. It seems the browser manufacturers do not all implement all of the Syntax the same.

Joe, if you would like a chuckle, you can buy Vista and for an extra hundred bucks, you can "downgrade" it to XP, but, you can't buy XP outright any more.

Go figgure. LOL

I got a "copy" of Windows Longhorn back in the day, had some neat features and eye candy. I really liked the analog desktop clock. I actually used it on a spare PC for a while until I started having driver/update issues.

I have IE 8 on XP Pro and a XP Media Center versions with no problems at all. It actually works smoother than IE 7 did.

What hack would that be and your desktop is a lot more cluddered than mine for sure, however my task bar is more crowded..

I only installed ie8 today so I don't know about any of its features or problems yet. Running it on XP so I hope I don't have any more nastys. SEems to be a lot quicker than before, so I guess that is a good start.

My other computer had its monitor die yesterday. Lost its red component, and after I stuffed around to try to make allowances for that, everything in windows went green. This was not a huge drama as it still ran in dos well enough - tho no red either. Trouble is I turned the stupid thing off and now it won't come back on again so I can't copy the files I need to disk. Think I might have trouble getting the monitor replaced/repaired as it was bought in 1994. That PC runs Windows 3.11!!! Also has a 5-1/4" floppy drive. Love that PC. Hope the monitor comes to life again cos then not only can I copy my files but I can also try reloading the monitor's software. I can live with green, entire darkness is a different matter!! LOL

I’ve been running it for a few weeks now. It’s not bad. Those right click options are tied to which plugins and add-ons you have loaded. You could do the right click for a Google Search in IE7 with the right plugins. My right click leads to a “Map With Yahoo” instead of Live Search. And I get a Search with Google instead of Bing. So it depends on which add-ons, plugins, toolbars, etc you have.

Have you noticed the colored browser tabs. That used to bug me, but I’ve gotten used to it. Each unique site you open gets a different colored tab, and each tab you open from that same site gets the same colored tab. So you can have multiple tabs from the same site all grouped by color. Makes it a little easier to quickly see what is open where.

I have noticed IE8 is a bit slower on some sites. The Sci-Fi channel site is one. And often IE8 craps out the first time you login in, but always hits the 2nd time.
