Any one heard of the new movie Avatar?

I saw a couple of trailers for this tonight on TV which peaked my interest. Well I went and looked at some of the reviews (opened in England last month) and based on what I read one of the top 3 SciFi films of all time.

Certainly supposed to be one of the most expensive.
I was psyched, then discovered the plot line, now not interested.

I haven't seen a story line other than what critics have said which was very positive. I know the director has made some great movies including Titanic.

So far I have taken the story line to be....a man loses his ability to walk in the war and they offer him a chance to walk again through this game or similation/alternate reality....of which he becomes a part of emotionally and physically. I'm sure there is much more improtant details to the premise but from that bit alone I was interested.

Hmmm, perhaps I misunderstood. Let's re-open the realm of possibilities...

That is kind of what I thought it was about, Dee but just wasn't sure. As I said I only saw a couple of short trailers and read a few reviews none of which said much about the plot at all.

As I said Im sure there is MUCH more to it, kind of hard to tell by the trailers tv play....I haven't looked it up elsewhere.

Which Avatar??????

There are two: The one that releases here soon, directed by James Cameron, which is what I believe you all are talking about. That indeed, looks like a great movie. I've heard that James Cameron sat on it for years, waiting for SFX and CGI FX to get to the point where he could make the movie true to his vision.

The other one is a live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender, directed by M. Knight Shyamalan. I'm looking forward to that one as well. Sadly, I have become addicted to that cartoon in this past summer.

Yes I was talking about the James Cameron one Allen. I've never heard of the second one you named but if I can find it I will check it out also.

That does look good Allen and will mark it on my calendar for next year. I guess I will check it out on the Cartoon Network also. Thanks for passing it on.

Just saw a 15 minute interview with Cameron on the film and how they did it. It’s about a Marine that is injured and paralyzed. He then transfers to a planet called Pandora (apparently it’s in the future and we have space travel).

The planet Pandora is populated by a race of blue skinned aliens. The earth scientists on Pandora have figured out a way to take Alien DNA and combine it with Human DNA to grow a “host” body. The body they grow is then controlled by a volunteer soldier to act as a liaison with the aliens.

The paralyzed Marine gets into a special chamber and transfers his consciousness to the new body. Naturally, he’s thrilled to take the job since his new body is fully functional. So he goes off to interface with the aliens and becomes a liaison between them and the humans. Apparently as the story progresses, we are treated to his emotional rollercoaster ride of becoming a true alien tribe member and fulfilling his duties as an official human liaison.

Very interesting and I can’t wait to see it.
