Propane, regulators, outdoor gas range question.

Smells Smoke

New member
Hi, I don't know if this is the right forum or category but here goes.

I have an outdoor cooking area with a propane four burner rangetop. It is powered by a portable propane tank, barbq grill regulator, the regulator that came with the rangetop, and the rangetop itself. It works great for a year until someday the burners emit no gas. Take everything apart, put it back together, works ... until next day, no gas. Sometimes it works great for another year.

I've read a lot of webpages but no one describes this setup and no one says exactly what the barbq regulator pressure should be. Too high? Too low? When it works, it works great.

Could anyone recommend the proper forum for this?

Many thanks!

It sounds as if your grill regulator needs replacing, SS. Have you tried a new one? When I use a gas grill, I open the regulator all the way, always.

I changed the regulator on the rangetop a year ago so I'm on the second one of those. Last night a disassembled everything down to the jets, tubes, gas controls and rangetop regulator. I could blow through everything. Reassembled, tested okay. This morning, no gas from burners. I'll try changing the regulator on the tank next. It was bought new two years ago.

Frustrating, for sure! Keep us posted.

Although I could loosen the hose between the tank regulator and the rangetop regulator and get gas, I changed the tank regulator and the rangetop has s now been working a couple of days. Thanks for the conversation and support.
