But a U.S. VICE-President was…………..

It was William Rufus de Vane King, the 13th vice president, under democrat Franklin Pierce. King was in Havana because he suffered from Tuberculosis and hoped that the climate might restore his health.

After the swearing in, he headed back to the U.S., but the disease overcame him and he died after only six weeks in office.

In addition to being the only VP sworn in on foreign soil, King is also the only bachelor VP in the history of the office.
