NCT's Iron Chef 35: Battle Chili!

For Iron Chef 35, the secret challenge is……..

Chili!

As with the other ICs, this is a challenge to ourselves. There is no judging, and no winner. We are ALL winners in this since we will all benefit from the creativity and new recipes that this challenge will bring us.

The rules are simple, this challenge is open for 7 days (week of 1/3/10 - 1/10/10). During that 7 day period, make any kind of chili you want, however you want. The only stipulations are that you must make chili in some shape, form, or fashion, and it must be something you have cooked during the 7 day period of this challenge.

Once your dish is ready, it’s a good idea to make a new post with your recipe. Then, post a link and a picture of your recipe to this thread. Alternatively, if you like, post your recipe and pictures here. In the end, we will compile all the results into one thread for easy searching.

Now, let Battle Chili begin!

At the dinner party I was invited to the other night they made a pot of chili con corny, it was terrific......but I paid dearly for it later! :( So I'm afraid I'll have to skip this battle!

Was the chili loaded with corn?

Typically it's called "chili con carne" (pronounced "car-nay"). It's spanish. "Con" means "with" and "carne" means "meat". So it's "chili con carne" or "chili with meat" meaning they made a chili with meat (as opposed to a vegetarian chili). But, chili is a personal matter, so it could be anything. Just wondering as I'm always learning myself! :thumb:

Nice timing, I made chili last night! Um, where would I post that recipe, in Stews?

Anyway, made with red kidney beans, black beans, whole kernel corn, red onions, Vidalia onions, diced tomatoes, cubed steak, and of course various spices, garlic, salt, a couple of kinds of pepper, etc:

I'm with you, I say put the recipes in "Soups, Stews & Casseroles ".

Any other ideas on recipe placement????

^ I'll take some corn chips with that, for scooping..

Frito Chili Pie is one of my all time favorites. A bed of Fritos, with chili, cheese, onions, etc. YUM!

I'm planning on entering at least one chili competition this year, so I think I'll use this opportunity to practice. Heading to Penzey's this afternoon!

I got some Chipotle CHili chocolate for Christmas that I was going to use in chili...
will try to do it this week!

No :yum: it had corn in it as well as meat! The name was meant as a playful desription of it.
It had Kidney beans, ground beef, corn, tomatoes, onions.....and thats all I remember....it was not complex but it had good flavor. :)

Cooksie, is your recipe posted anywhere?

No beans in your Texas Red, right?

Don't you participate in chili competitions?

No, I compete in barbecue competitions.

One day at home, I made the winning chili recipe from that year's Terlingua Chili competition and hated it. Had to throw it out, LOL!

Competition cooking is sometimes very different from at-home cooking. Since you know that the judges are only going to take a couple of bites, you want those bites to knock their socks off with rich and "POW-erful" flavors. Trying to eat a bowl of that chili was impossible for me.

Besides, I'm a bean-in-the-chili girl.

I never thought about that, but it makes perfect sense.

Lol--there's beaners and there's no-beaners. I can go both ways.
