TRUTH !!

A bakers' strike in Denmark in 1850 caused bakery owners to hire workers from other countries, mainly from Austria. These bakers brought along new recipes including Plundergeback. After the strike was settled, Danish bakers adopted and adapted the Plundergeback recipes mainly by increasing the amount of egg and butter. Like croissants, a Danish pastry is a type of puff pastry constructed of laminated yeast-leavened dough to create a layered texture. The Danish call these pastries Wienerbrød (Vienna bread).

In the US "Danish pastry" is usually shortened to "Danish". Americans added cream cheese and/or fruit filling as a further adaptation.
