Bubba Keg Grill/Smoker

I saw one of these at Home Depot. It is $599.00. It seems to be a Green Egg knock off. It's the size of a large Green Egg, but half the price. It's got me curious. The thing is thick and heavy like a Green Egg, and may work just as well?

Anyone heard of the Bubba Keg grill/smoker?

If it works as well, it’s a steal. A Big Green Egg that size is nearly 1,000, and that does NOT include the nest (stand) or side tables! To get the same setup in a Big Green Egg, you’ll be out nearly 1,300 or more. I have to admit......I'm interested!

i have one thing to say about this.. UDS..lmao

a guy on one of my Q forums make these as well...they are not as fancy with the cart and the whole bit but they have the convection effect just like a properly built UDS.. i will get you the link when i get back from playing with my UDS...lol

No offense Bam, while that keg smoker looks awesome, the Grill in question has MUCH more insulation and this would be much better as a convection grill and retain the heat...

How long have these things been out? How well do they stand up to the elements?

it is a fancy Ugly Drum Smoker,Big Drum Smoker trust me on this.. the guy who started making these is on one of my Q forums...known him for years

the bad part of these, is that they control the temp alot with the exhaust vent...big no no...bad things happen to your meat..

Oh…….I’ve got to disagree!!!! :yum:

It has a lower air intake that you use for the main air flow control. In that first video you posted, he keeps the damn thing nearly closed!

I understand that capping the top allows smoke build up which can result in creosote formation, but that isn’t really what is happening here.

Personally, in my smoker, I only use the lower damper for control and always leave the upper full open. If the lower is closed, the upper can only pull so much.

Yeah, a few years ago, I went to a Q at a friend's place, and he had one. They are VERY impressive. Efficient doesn't even begin to describe the things!

he keeps both intake and exhaust almost closed..i think at around 4:10 of the first video the exhaust is at 1

the problem with this grill, is if you want to smoke at lower temps, you have to choke it out with the exhaust vents... once it gets hot, it stays hot because of the convection and insulation effects... he has a forum somewhere i will have to look for it...lol

i am not saying this grill/smoker is bad... somebody who started this thread asked for reviews and comments..LMAO:yum::yum::yum:

as for the UDS and no insulation... i live in northern ontario canada, it doesnt need it... we can cook on it @ 32*F maintain 225*F and not burn much more charcoal than it doesn in 70* weather...

that being said, i still would like to have one(bubba keg) for the unique factor..lol

That's cause he's an idiot....uh......never mind. Sorry.

Personally, with that much insulation, cut your coals down to 1/2 or 1/4 then use the lower damper. It can't get much simpler than that. Anyone having problems and needing that top vent has way too much coal in there.
