Can the charcoal be raised so as to use this like s 22" Weber kettle?

I need more grill space and If this can do dual duty, it woulkd be great.

I have done that a couple of ways, Andy. I have NOT tried raising the charcoal.

1) Remove the middle section and set a cooking grate on top of the charcoal ring
to grill directly over the coals.

or

2) Keep the middle section there, remove the water pan, and just grill on the lower cooking grate.

The downside of option 2 is having to lean over the top of the middle section to deal with the food.

Qsis is right, #1 is the way to go. My Master Built is designed the same way as the Weber and can be used in this fashion. Makes for a real hot fire since the grate is so close to the coals, so you may want to lower the number of coals used unless you want a good sear over high heat.
