Clam Fritters

1 c. small, whole clams, drained, reserve liquor
1 Egg
1/2 C. Milk
1 C.Bread-flour
1 pinch Salt
lard
Beat the egg with half the milk, adding the flour gradually, to make a smooth batter.
Add salt half-cupful the reserved liquor.
blend well, adding a little more flour if batter is to weak, or a little more liquor if the batter is too stiff.
Coat each clam with (about one teaspoonful) batter and
drop into boiling lard. Remove when golden brown.
drain on paper towels.
Serve hot.
