Goulash

Like most families with lots of kids and not much money to feed them, my Mom made goulash often, and once I was married, I did too. Even when we were able to eat high off the hog, I still made it 'cause I love the stuff. Mom and I used spaghetti instead of macaroni, and added either red or chili beans. Does anyone else make it different than the traditional?

The older generations didn't use as many herbs and spices as we use today. Back then they mostly seasoned things like goulash with salt, pepper and butter. That's all I season it with today and it tastes exactly like my Mom's did. So you might have more luck duplicating the flavor of your Mom's goulash if you keep it simple.
