Margaret shared her recipe while I was helping out at Plymouth Church's candy circle. You would be amazed at how bawdy those ladies could be. lol

Margaret Noble Mahannah's Sweet Pickle Chips

Ingredients:
14 cucumbers, about 5" long
1 quart white vinegar
8 cups sugar
2 Tablespoons mixed pickling spices in a spice bag
2 Tablespoons salt

Directions:
Wsh cucumbers thoroughly, drain well and arrange in a crock or enameled kettle. Pour fresh boiling water over them and let stand until morning, then drain and pour more fresh boiling water over them. Repeat this process two more times (four hot water baths in all). On the fifth morning, drain and slice the cucumbers about 1/4" thick. Combine the vinegar, sugar, salt and spices. For three mornings, drain off syrup and reheat and pour over slices, making four times in all. On the final morning, pack slices in hot, clean jars, discard spice bag, reheat syrup and pour over slices. Seal at once and store in cool, dry place. They are just wonderful if you have not lost patience.
