Sardines on Saltines

When I was little, my parents served sardines on saltines with mayo.

My father is visiting this week, so I served him that appetizer for old times sake.

Come to find out that my friend and neighbor, Babs, also came to love sardine and saltines in the 50's and 60's, but she had hers with lemon.

Does anyone else like these?

Oh heck yes. Big fan of canned fish on crackers. And all the other seafood in little tins. I like mine with horseradish, good and hot. Or Frank's Hot Sauce. I'll try mayo next time.
In the Asian markets, there are fried sardines or mackerel, I forget which, in a red sauce. Those are great too.
And saltines are the best crackers for them.
After further staring, I see that it's a napkin. hahahaa

That's an astounding little plate. I sat here trying to figure out what purple flower or herb you were serving with the fish. Then I realized it was the artwork on the plate. :)

for whatever reason, I'm not a "burn off yo' mouth" sauce type fan.

for me - a cream sauce with minced onion on rye crisps fits the bill.
now, herring - that needs a mustard sauce....

Sweden/Norway - go to restaurants and just browse/munch thru the herrings-&/in-sauces selections. no main course required. . .
