Cherry Bruschetta Appetizer

2 (21-ounce) cans cherry pie filling / topping
1 cup finely chopped scallion (just the white)
1 tsp dried basil
1 tsp dried oregano
4 garlic cloves, minced
1/2 cup olive oil
2 (16-ounce) loaves French bread, sliced (3/4-inch).
In a large saucepan, combine first four ingredients; blend well with a whisk. Cook over medium heat,stirring constantly, 4-5 minutes, or until the mixture is bubbly and well blended. Set aside to cool.
In a medium bowl, combine garlic and olive oil. Brush both sides of each bread slice liberally with oil / garlic mixture; place on an ungreased baking sheet. Broil, 4 inches from the heat source, 1 1/2 minutes per side, or until golden.
Crown each slice of bread with a generous dollop of the cooled cherry mixture. Serve immediately.

Serves 16 (2 slices ea.)
