My window faces the south was written in 1937 by three pop songwriters: Jerry Livingston, Abner Silver and Mitchell Parish. But the song has long been viewed as a country music standard, from 1938 right up to the present time.

The first recording to get noticed was by Fats Waller, complete with Hawaiian guitar played by Ceele Burke as part of the accompaniment.

In 1938, Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys, who clearly heard Waller's version took it into the Western swing field, where it remains a standard to this day. The vocal is by Leon McAuliffe, Wills's most famous steel guitarist of "Take It Away Leon" fame.
