New Mexico woman lands 335-pound Alaska halibut on first-ever fishing trip
FAIRBANKS - As a truck driver working for Osborne Construction in Fairbanks, Annette Gutierrez doesn’t get much time off. She works 12-hour days, seven days a week.

But when Gutierrez and her fiance, Steve Perkins, who works the same schedule as a heavy equipment operator for Osborne, got a few days off earlier this month, they decided to take a trip to Valdez to go halibut fishing with Perkins’ hunting buddy, Mike Chambers, who has his own boat.

“We had a few days off and we almost never have days off so we decided to go fishing,” said the 47-year-old Gutierrez, who is working on a project at Eielson Air Force Base.
