This is my tentative menu. Things may change the closer we get to Thanksgiving.

Yes it is a lot of dishes. BUT I make small amounts of each dish. I see no reason why we can't have a nice selection of food because we are a small family. We never have much leftovers because I only make enough for 1 days leftovers. And 2 days of sandwiches.

What will you be eating?

As far as I know we're going to DIL parents.
It'll be the usual traditional foods with some Puerto Rican dishes mixed.
That's how she did it years ago when I've gone there.

We've also discussed getting a Christmas tree and putting it up that night.

We used to do a ton of appetizers, but as we (just 3 of us) age, we're finding that appys wreck the main event - an evening dinner (except when I visit friends and all we do all day is graze on appetizers).

So:
Turkey with sausage/bread stuffing and gravy
Simply (mashed) Potatoes
Frozen peas with pearl onions and sautéed fresh mushrooms
French fried onion rings to sprinkle (best part of the green bean casserole)
Celery/Olive relish tray
Jellied Cranberry

Wine

Pumpkin Pie Skillet Brownie https://www.thecookierookie.com/pumpkin-pie-skillet-brownie/

I picked up the bird at work this morning.
All employees got one.
We get a spiral ham for Christmas.

It's a large breast, with a gravy packet as well.
This is going to be my contribution to Thanksgiving dinner, as well as stuffing, mashed potatoes, deviled eggs and green bean casserole.
Sophie is making ham, red beans and rice, spicy sweet onion dish, there will be cranberry sauce and several pies.

This year we are going to Peter's house so not sure the whole menu but know there will be:

turkey
ham
prime rib
tofurkey roll
dill mashed potatoes
gravy
dressing
cranberries
relish tray
pumpkin pie
apple pie
marion berry pie
real whipped cream

I'm making the pies, providing the cranberries, and relish tray.

Yesterday we went to the commissary and got a whole Smithfield ham for 15 bucks!!! I put it in the freezer for Easter.

Well in the past two days all my dishes are prepped (except the turkey, gravy and stuffed mushrooms). Everything is ready to be reheated in oven after the bird comes out to rest.

The bird goes in at noon, I'll prepare everything else I'm taking beforehand- stuffing, green bean casserole, I'll do the mash and gravy at Nana Sophie's.
It's going to be a long day.
We eat at 7pm-ish!
Over the river and through the woods.. literally. Lol

Now it's going wrapped in foil back into the oven on warm.
It's self basting so per instructions I've read, it should be ok until later.
Fingers x'd!
I'll be using some of the broth for the cornbread stuffing and mashed potatoes and gravy.

I'll share my plated food later this evening.

this is why people do not invite engineers to cook....

the chart shows the turkey temp vs time - one can project the line out to see it's right on track to hit 165 at 5:20 pm....

Da Bird.

They had inserted this pop up thing (to tell when the turkey was done) which I removed. The skin split where it had been inserted.

It was done in 3-1/2 hours. If I wanted an indicator to determine doneness, I would have stuffed the bird and included raw popcorn in the stuffing!

Nice bird, Dogboa.
I figure anyone who's been roasting turkeys for years know when it's done.
Ain't no real science to it.

Everybody's food looks great!

Chowderman, you are a riot with your engineering ... uh, help? LOL!

I got a 12 pound fresh Butterball. It and the sides were delicious, if I do say so.

It was a nice day, but I was beat when the dishes were done!

it's a Cuisinart brand - it was a Xmas gift so no idea of the source but should be easy to find - stainless - the roasting rack is well made - sturdy & good design.

Thank you so much Chowder. I found a Cuisinart stainless steel roaster with ss rack that can handle a 23 lb. bird. Good Black Friday sale 60% off. Most of my cookware/Appliances are Cuisinart.

Dinner was a bunch of leftovers which we (family members) were instructed to come and get.
Believe me, there was a lot.
Ham, turkey, dressing, feta salad that Ty brought from Kroger, sweet potatoes, Sophie made those, as well as the bean /corn and pepper salad and corny corn cake.
Broccolini salad made by Aimee's brother Isaac, and his wife Beth made the coleslaw- which was gorgeous. Very nicely made I thought with cilantro and a very nice vinegary dressing.

I had some turkey on white for lunch.
My deviled eggs were gone ...gone.. gone..
So were the pumpkin and pecan pies.
That corn cake looks like it has a face in it. Lol

As you can see, nobody went hungry.

Very nice Peeps!
I think with all these leftovers we won't be cooking for days.
I've already got stuff packed in small containers to take along to work since I'm working tomorrow night and Sunday.

Thank you Sass.

I made turkey soup today (I used leftover turkey, green olives (not the poppers), homemade turkey stock, turkey gravy, chives and the small amount of mashed red & Yukon potatoes plus white & wild rice and bacon for the soup). Between the soup and hubby and the girls eating leftovers to day for dinner there isn't much leftovers left.
