This is a Showcase of a single ingredient.

Each entry should revolve around the showcase ingredient.

There are no rules just a single dish or a meal involving the showcased ingredient.

When possible entry may include your recipe/instructions (or a link to your recipe). Pictures of your entry are always welcome and would be wonderful but not mandatory.

Let's have fun with this!!

And the star of this Showcase is ...

I was going to put this in the dinner thread, but it fits here quite nicely.

I made a mini version of Bam's Lazy Man's Lasagna, and had some homemade baguettes from yesterday to go with it. Me and the Mrs were just saying, this recipe is easier and just as good (or better) as making the old style lasagna, with half the work. I made this batch in a 6x6 Corningware dish, with my whole wheat & basil 5-cheese ravioli, along with my homemade Italian sausage and homemade spaghetti sauce (1 pint for this size dish).

Coat bottom of dish with sauce and first layer of ravioli

Over the ravioli put a layer of cooked Italian sausage, sauce and Mozzarella cheese.

P1030154.jpg

Time for the next layer of ravioli...

P1030155.jpg

Finally, top with a layer of cooked sausage, sauce and cheese (I used Mozzarella & Provolone for the topping, and pop in the oven for 40 minutes at 350F.

It's a sensual experience of textures in this dish from the hot, stringy Mozzarella and Provolone cheeses and the chewy Italian sausage, then you get a burst of flavor when you bite through the skin of the ravioli and get that creamy gush of 5 different cheeses, all in a chunky tomato sauce with vibrant Italian seasonings. I'm ready for a smoke and a nap.:yum::yum:

Here is the oven rendition of our Smoked Sausage “Date Plate” dinner that I’ve done many times before.

http://www.netcookingtalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1520

For this, put the veggies (potatoes, carrots, onions, and mushrooms) in s roaster. Add oil and seasoning. Toss well.

Roast covered for 20 minutes, then uncovered for 10 at 375 degrees.

Add beer and smoked sausage, then cook covered another 15-20 minutes.

Slice the sausage on a bias, and serve on a large platter with the veggies. Bring two forks to the table along with some crusty bread and enjoy with your loving SO!

Tonight, we had a culinary adventure (at least that's what I told Jerry). We have always been curious about the vibrantly green chorizo we see in the market, and so we gave it a try. Hmmm. I'll have to say that it was highly spiced, with lots of green chiles, cilantro, maybe tomatillos, maybe spinach, and what tasted to me like epazote (an acquired taste, often served with beans). The links are made with pork, and they're pretty fatty. I served them with rice and beans, and some fresh tortillas I made myself. We ate the meal like tacos (sorry about the bad picture - can't quite get the hang of taking a picture one-handed). I should have taken a picture of the package before I cooked them...they got greener as they cooked (I cooked them in beer). I'm not sure we'll try these again, but I'm glad we satisfied our curiosity.

Sausage bread (browned sausage, fresh parsley, ground red pepper flakes, fresh grated Romano & Parmesan cheeses and mozzarella) layered and rolled jelly roll style in bread dough. The bread got a little browner then I like but it was good.

Ya welcome dear.
That was for both you and Karen.
Karen, I'd love to taste that just for the sheer pleasure of sampling the sausage too.
Your plate is beautiful.

Peeps, you always kill me with your pizzas!
Excellent.

Thanks, Peeps and Sass - we just HAD to satisfy our curiosity. It's still sitting a little heavy on my stomach. But it sure is pretty, isn't it?

I got in under the wire, too. I felt a little guilty about my sausage links for breakfast - it didn't feel like a real contribution. So I made one of our favorite winter favorites.

Thank you Sass. I wish I could send you some of everything.

I spent all day working on this dinner. I am in the process of working up a braciole tutorial.
