Not really cooking related (unless you’re using it to fix the stove, grill, pan, etc), but who’s got a multi-tool, and do you love it?
I’ve had many over the years, most of them cheap. A few years back, DW got me a Gerber, and it is amazing. A really nice, well made tool. I use it to death!
However, it has one “tool” or attachment that I have no idea what it is. Look at the 3rd pic. What is that small flip-out hole thing for? Any ideas?

Just guessing here, but is it used to hold the nail in place when you first begin to hammer a nail?

Or maybe it's to let you hang it from a pegboard.

Good ideas FM!
I have no idea. I was thinking it was for string to tie the thing to something? It's probably a specialty tool I've never learned to use during my redneck up-bringing.

But…..I was thinking just now…..if you use this for a nail and the head is too big……how do you get the tool free once you hammer the nail in? Maybe only used for finishing nails?

OK, I think it's a lanyard ring for hanging your tool around your neck.

Oh, you're good! I think you may be right. Well, I don't feel so bad since it's not a specialty tool for some task I should have learned!

If I recall correctly, you're supposed to tie a string to that and then use the folded-up tool as a plumb bob. Of course, I've been drinking, so that may be bullshit.

I'll bet you're right, too, Doug! It's a multi-tool, right?

That sounds like a really cool use! Good idea!

It wouldn't hang properly to be a plumb bob. It's just a lanyard ring. Kind of silly, since they usually come with a leather case to attach to your belt, but if you're working on a tall ladder, having your tools tied to your person sure can come in handy!

I got 3 cheap little multi tools from sellout.woot for $3/ea. I just love mine! I've used it so many times since I got it. I gave one to my DIL and one to my son (who will probably lose it since he doesn't have a purse).

I have two of these. A really old weatherman. That is on mw weekday belt and a weatherman wave on my jeans. There is nothing on computers that cannot be taken apart with one. Paladin tools makes one with blades to punch down 66 blocks and 110 blocks. I would love to have one of those.

You tie a string to it for use as a weapon. Saves you from having to carry a sock full of nickels around when you need to jack somebody.
Yeah yeah, I know, probably time to call my shrink again.....

I keep one in the car, but I hardly ever use it. I keep a couple of pocket knives on me that I use frequently.
I'd say that hole is for a lanyard. Handy for anglers, tower repair people, and anybody who drops it will lose it forever...

I'm willing to bet they're made of 440A steel or something close to it. I have a Leatherman and that is what it feels like on the stones. Those short blades sharpen quickly but as knife steels go, edge retention is minimal.
I have several of the multi tools with them in each car as well as in the office. When I carry a pocket knife I have about 10 Swiss Army that have different uses. For example I have one for when I play golf. It has a spike tightening tool, ball mark repair tool, a removable ball marker as well as the usual scissors, two bladed knife and 2 screw drivers. It was a one of the gifts I got from a golf tournament about 10 years ago where I also got my Michalob golf bag from at the same time.
I carry my Victorinox multi-tool I bought about 10 years ago every day in my man purse. I use it from time to time when I don't have access to my real tools. :D

My favorite part of my new surge is the saw & file configuration. You can go to any hardware store and buy a jigsaw blade to fit in this fitting. See the picture, you just flip out the cover and replace with the jigsaw blade you like. (must have the t on the end).

The only thing is it is on the heavy side, but I still love it.
