What do you think about merging this thread with the other, naming or renaming to ensure "iron chef", "NCT", and "pork" are in the title, and then move it to pork?

If NCT iron chef becomes becomes popular and several episodes occur, a new sub forum could be formed and all iron chef events moved there with permanent redirects left in their former positions.

i think its a good idea to merge it then move it to pork...

as soon as keltin punches in the numbers for the number generator we will have our next category our next battle...

i am hoping it comes up beef because i am Q'ing some meatloaf a little later on today..lol

I know I posted my pictures late...just no way to post on a Saturday night...not with all that drinking going on, and all that eating..and then we fell asleep in front of the fireplace. Didn't wake up till 1:30am:bonk:

So, I may be too late for this one. I did make the effort, though:wink:.

I was thinking of this battle chef NCT thing on the way home from the shore yesterday. I think it's a fantastic idea. I know it's not my gig but I did have a couple of ideas...take them or not, it's your choice.

I'd love to see this be a consistent topic/category. The easiest way to get as many people involved as possible is to limit it to twice a month, with all pictures and recipes (yes, I think recipes should be included) due on the 15 and 30 of each month. I think the next food challenge should be posted on the day the current challenge closes. For instance, what are we doing next?? What about holding the picture posting till the very end? This way, if you don't really like the way something came out, you still have time to try again..?
Much as I love meat, true carnivore that I am....all food groups should be represented as should courses other than the main course. Like I said, just my thoughts. I love this idea, and especially that no winner is declared. I see it as a learning opportunity and more importantly, a sharing network.

So.....what's the next challenge?????

the 23rd was the deadline to post the pics so we could all wake up sunday to new pictures...

but heck its our(NCT's) contest, nobody said we were punctual...lol

i have no problem with posting them as long as you post the recipes as well...

2 pizza doughs
2# lugania sausage (if you cannot find it (think thin wheels) regular italian sausage will do
6oz fresh mozzarella (the wet kind) sliced
2oz sun dried tomatoes, julliened
2oz sliced olives
2oz julliened red pepper
seasoned olive oil (or use plain, with red pepper flakes & oregano for spinkling later)
I bunch arugula
1/4c chopped fresh basil
1/4c grated parmesan

Hot grill, pizza pans, pizza screens

Grill sausage, remove to cutting board and slice thinly on a bias.

Prep the dough and shape it to a pizza screen or directly onto the grill. If you put it on the grill, which I recommend , you can flip it before you add the toppings. Lightly drizzle the dough with oil.

Add the arugula leaves, peppers, olives, sundried tomatoes to the flipped dough. Top with fresh mozzarella and cook till crisp. Top with slices of sausage, fresh basil and grated parmesan. Remove and slice..

Is this cooked indirect, Vera?
How do you get your toppings to cook without the dough burning? Especially if it has olive oil on it?

I went back and added Vera’s entry to the first post. Looks AMAZING Vera!!

Buzz, merging this thread with the other one is fine. Can you merge this one first though so that the first post is the results? That makes it easier to find the recipes and decide what you’d like to try.

I lie Vera’s ideas. I was thinking too that doing it every week may be too much. But having deadlines of the 15th and 30th are cool.

I just used the random number generator to pick the IC3 ingredient, and it came up with PASTA.

Since today is the 24th, and next Sunday is the 31, do we want to go ahead and do IC3 now, then start the next ICs as twice monthly affairs?

Or do we want make the IC3 Pasta Battle due on June 15?

imho i think we can do this once a week... we can handle it.. most of us cook at least a couple times a week

i personally think it should be run the same every week... start on sunday...pics in by saturday night

just my opinon which most times dont count for carp around my house..lol

I could probably handle it once a week. If a difficult ingredient comes up, I could just sit it out and give myself a break!

Then again, I know I couldn't......I love the challenge. Speaking of which I now have to start racking my brains for a pasta dish.......hmmmmm......

What does everyone else thing? Twice monthly, or every week?

TexasGirl

nothing wrong with every week.

The only thing you really have to cook is the dough and the sausage. The olive oil is just to help the crust brown and for a bit of flavour. As the dough heats the ingredients will warm and the cheese will melt...but the remainder of the vegetables remain crisp.

I'll never get my pictures in by Saturday night....I don't usually serve dinner till 9 or so.. and with all the cocktailing and wine we consume, I can barely take the pictures, let alone get them off the camera, into photobucket and onto here. If you stretch that deadline till noon Sunday for picture posting I won't have a problem meeting the deadline. I realize it's asking a lot to tailor the entire challenge to my habits but I would appreciate the opportunity to be able to participate; Saturday is usually the evening I do my big ticket meal... Living alone here most of the week I have no one to cook for Monday - Friday..

I will never be the fly in the ointment....If I can post pictures on Sunday I'm in if we do it twice a month or every week.... I do still think that pushing this every week could lead to burn out sooner rather than later.

And...I already know what I'm doing for pasta!! :bounce:

Not a bad idea. Nothing wrong with stretching the deadline to Sunday afternoon. Then once everything is compiled, we have Sunday night to look the results over to think about what we may want to make the upcoming week.

As with the other ICs, I think everyone should post their recipes and pics whenever they're ready, so posting at anytime between the start of the challenge and Sunday afternoon would be fine.

Once the results are in and compiled (I love having one thread with one post showing all the results....it's like a mini-recipe book in one post!), then the next ingredient can be picked by the random number generator so that the new challenge can begin.

Thoughts?

Keltin
05-24-2009, 04:31 PM
Ok.....so the deadline will be Sunday night? Let's say 9PM? That way I can compile the results Sunday night into one thread before going to bed, and also announce the next ingredient so eveyone can wake up to it on Monday Morning?

Sound good?
