Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives.... I love this show even tho I could care less for Guy. But what I love about this show is that the food that they cover is more like the kind of food I would cook. None of this shi-shi fru-fru stuff. (No offense to the Chefs out there... I just need good down home cookin food!)

Anyhow, what do you folks think? Ever watch it?

Never even heard of it until now. I'll keep an eye out for it. I suppose it's on the food network but when is it on?

I watch it pretty regularly-and Sattie is right-good old, down home food. No foie gras (although I'm sure its as delicious as Braunshweiger:yuk:)

Just good food at little hole in the walls across the USA. Its a fun show, and every once in a while you pick up some new ideas.

I have caught a couple of episodes that I found interesting. My wife worked in fine dinning for about 20 years as a waitress/bartender/catering and neither of us are much on eating in restaurants due to it. We much prefer to buy our food and cook it as that way I know exactly what I'm getting.

We do have to go out a couple of times a year in regards to business and I'm always surprised with how bad some "Chef's" really cook. They seem to be more about empty plates with little on it or stacked up into some kind of food art in the center. Most of which doesn't taste like much really.

Joec you nailed THAT on the head!!!! I LOVE that show Sattie!!!!!!
I used to really like Guy but now his little "cute" sayings are starting to grate on me. Either way that food is the food that I want to eat!!!

Yea, Guy is kinda annoying, but I can put up with him for 30 minutes to soak in the down home and ofter creative goodness that this show presents. Anyone see the burger show Monday night... my goodness!!! That was a good one... my mouth was watering the whole time!

You wouldn't believe me the way I make a hamburger. First let me start by saying I don't buy ground meat I grind my own so I know exactly what the beef looked like and the quality that went into my ground meat.

Now when I cook it it is rare on the inside and medium well on the out side. I like it with ketchup, Miracle Whip, grilled onions and mushrooms on top of it and no bread. It really resembles road kill more than a man hole cover like a burger from most other burger joints with a few exceptions. We do have a couple of good hamburger places here but they over cook the beef, health department rules. :D

I tried the grinding my own meat thing... about killed my food processor. I'm still interested in doing it like you for the reason you state: I know what is in there as opposed something that was pre mixed for me. (I'm considering a real grinder!!)

OK... with that being said... what the heck is up with the ketchup??? Ugh... if there is anything in the top 10 list of 'don't like'... it's ketchup!!!! Oh well... I know I don't like the stuff, but not gonna give you crap for liking it! Okay, maybe a little!!!

Oh you can't do it in a food processor at least any I've owned. I have a Kitchen Aid stand mixer with a meat grinder attachment I use for small amounts or making sausage. Now I have a dedicated meat grinder for years made by Hobart that could grind almost any meat.

Good info guys. Still have not caught the show but I'll keep an eye out for it. Is it on the same day and time every week?
Is that an electric meat grinder you are talking of Joe? I could use one of those too.

Yes the one I have is pretty old but it is electric. It also doesn't have the power of the new one but then my grand mother bought it about 2 years before she pass away and never used it. I also have an old hand grinder that also works well though it would be a job doing up 5 lbs of chuck or 5 lbs of pork butt. The hand grinder is what she used and I have no idea who made it.

My Kitchen Aid is older also but it has worked well for my needs for about 15 years now. I picked up a new meat grinder as all the other attachents for it over the last couple of years which do the job also though not as fast as the old meat grinder.

Love that show too Satie, but Guy could use a primer on some new lines, LOL. You can't say more than one food is the best you ever had. I think on one show I counted him saying that five times about five of the same dishes from five different places!
One of these days I will get a meat grinder of my own!

I can't watch him anymore because of "that's money" and his other overused expressions. Too bad, because I liked the guy. And the food.

I started watching some Food Network shows one night when I could find nothing else as good anywhere on Dish Network, and the show that happened to be on was DDD, an early episode with the truck stop outside Victorville on old 66. Loved the show, can't stand his hairdo or his trite sayings, but like him otherwise. But I don't see how he can eat so much without exploding soon! I'm planning a trip to the North Central and North West states this year, and want to try out some of the places he's highlighted on his show.

There was an episode that featured a chef in a real small diner, I think up in New England somewhere, but the guy had some serious skills. I can't remember the recipes, but he had some crazy combinations.

Yea, you have to admit he does have a knack for finding the coolest places around...
