September 18, 2008 - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the expansion of the recall of Wegmans-brand store baked bagels to include additional products.

The FDA said Wegman Food Markets Inc. has expanded the voluntary recall announced last Wednesday to include about 100,000 cases of Challah bread and in-store baked bagels, bialys and rolls. The products were sold in Wegmans' 71 supermarket bakery departments in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia and Maryland between June 19 and Sept. 11.

The recall was initiated because a metal spring in a mixer broke and might have entered the dough, posing a possible choking hazard.

The recalled rolls were sold both individually in bins and pre-packaged.
The recall does not affect packaged breads and rolls sold in the commercial bakery section of Wegmans' stores, the area where Wegmans and national brand packaged breads and rolls are sold or Wegmans bagels sold in the dairy or frozen food departments.

Customers may return the recalled products for a refund or contact the company at 800-934-6267 for further information.
A list of all products recalled by the company is available at www. Wegmans.com

Good one Fred.
I'm glad and surprised to see so many companies issuing recalls on their own, no government intervention at all. Good for them, stepping up to the plate for the good of the company and the general public. :thumb:
