I load mine up with ketchup, mustard, onions and relish. Messy but good. :D

No, I had no intention of starting a ketchup fight.
I did visit the chicago dog link and they say this about putting ketchup on a hot dog:

The toppings are just as important as the order they are applied to the Hot Dog. Add toppings in the following order:


Yellow Mustard
Bright Green Relish
Fresh Chopped Onions
Two Tomato Wedges
A Pickle Spear or Slice
Two Sport Peppers
A Dash of Celery Salt

Remember: When adding toppings, dress the dog and not the bun!


As mentioned earlier, the toppings are just as important as the Hot Dog itself. If you look at the required toppings for a Chicago Dog, you will notice that Ketchup is not listed among them. Ketchup is an ingredient frowned upon by Hot Dog aficionados. Although ketchup remains one of the most popular condiments on Hot Dogs, "properly made" Hot Dogs, like the Chicago Style, usually lack the condiment.Those who consider themselves Hot Dog connoisseurs are often vehemently opposed to eating (or even witnessing) Hot Dogs with ketchup; they think the flavor of ketchup overpowers and destroys the taste of the Hot Dog instead of complementing it. Nowhere is this difference in opinion more apparent than in Chicago.
The inclusion of ketchup on a Chicago Style Hot Dog is a controversial issue. Most adult Chicagoans will shun ketchup. Chicago Hot Dog stands will not, as a rule, put ketchup on a Chicago Dog. Some stands will provide ketchup although you are responsible for defacing your Dog.

I say they are full of bologna! Who puts tomatoes on a hot dog? Yuck. Not me.
Sauce can be good on there sometimes but tomatoes, never! Ketchup has it's place, and I think it belongs on a hot dog along with mustard, onion and relish. So there! :D

Actually I don't either. They are great on hamburgers but out of place on a good dog.

One thing that I cant stand is celery salt. It just makes the whole thing taste to damn salty to the point where I cant taste anything else on the dog.

I never tried celery salt. Thought it sounded interesting. Is it any healthier than regular salt?

Not that I know of Doc. Just seasoned salt. :yuk: I think the salt in just one dog with bun is enough to make your blood pressure rise.

I love hotdogs! When I was a kid I only ate hotdog weenies stuffed with cheese. I called it the cheesey weenie. I still like to stuff them with cheese, but I like to top it off with dijon mustard and dill relish. Yeah, this might sound disgusting, but I love it!

I watched a program on hot dogs and some baseball players from Venezuela (I think) ate theirs with mayo, onions and crushed potato chips. I tried it and it was pretty good.

Anyone from the Jersey area ever try the deep fried hot dogs from "Rutts Hut"? Word on the street is that they are the bomb!!

Alas, as you know, tinkers are the clown princes of the service industry. The best food is "free" food.

Every Saturday morning at the Harley shop they serve all of the hotdogs and buns, Ruffles Chips and chocolate chip cookies we highwaymen can take.

If you're in the Madison, Wisconsin area, cruise down Interstate S-39, and look for the Cambridge off-ramp. There's the big Harley logo (the 'Bar and Shield) on a huge spindle that rises above all of the buildings.

Follow the sound of the noise.

The best hot dogs I've ever had and I am a big hot dog/sausage fan is at Arbetters Hot Dogs in Miami FL. Been around since I was a kid and still have the best I ever had. I've tried every one on their menu several times and can't pick a favorite they are all good.

First off they use great hot dogs all beef. You can have them in various ways such as served plain, with kraut, with cheese, with chili cheese, or as a corn dog and their chili cheese fries are really good. I prefer the kraut myself but then the owner died a while back after I left Florida but I understand the new owners do the exact same things with the same products. They opened in the early '50 and was down the street from my High School with an open campus for lunch so I sure have eaten a few. I've also had good hot dogs in other places but the kraut dog is just memorable.

If you are old enough their was a place called Lum's that specialized in beer from all over the world and beer steamed hot dogs with kraut. They where also excellent but not Arbetters however good in their own way.

New York has good hot dogs also but it has been years since I was last there. NY has better street food than any other city I've visited any where in the world.

Coney Dogs with Damn Good Garlic Sauce

Sauce
1 small yellow onion, chopped
2 T. olive oil
2/3 c. firmly packed chopped garlic
1 can (14 1/2 ounces) crushed tomatoes
1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce
1 c. water
1 1/2 T. chili powder
1 scant T. packed brown sugar
1 t. cumin
1 t. paprika
1/2 t. kosher salt
12 ounces ground chuck, cooked and crumbled

Hot Dogs
4 to 6 large white hot dog buns, split but not separated
4 T. unsalted butter at room temp.
4 to 6 large hot dogs, grilled
1 small sweet onion
Tangy yellow mustard for serving

To make the sauce -
In a skillet, saute the onion in the olive oil over medium-low heat until translucent. Add the garlic and stir one to two minutes, do not brown.
In a large saucepan over medium heat combine the tomatoes, tomato sauce, water, garlic mixture, chili powder, brown sugar, cumin, paprika and salt. Bring to a boil and reduce heat to a simmer, continue to simmer about 1 1/2 hours (until thick). Stir in crumbled meat. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and chili powder.

To assemble the hot dogs –
Heat a large skillet over medium heat, butter the buns and toast until golden. Add hot dogs to buns, spoon sauce and garnish with onion and mustard. :punk:

My own homemade, super hot combination Chili con carne. (Both red chiles and green chiles)

Hebrew National dog,

whole wheat bun,

Shredded extra sharp cheddar

Cover with coarsely diced hot red onions and tabasco! :w00t2::w00t2:

Serve with ice cold Carta Blanca! :wub:

It's a very good smooth Mexican beer. From the folks who brew Dos Equis.

Another good one is Modelo Especial, same folks who brew Corona. Much smoother and fuller tasting than Corona.

After reading this I noticed one thing, that being the "singular references" of consuming hot dogs.

For example, people might say, "When I eat a hot dog..."

This is one food item that should be eaten in a group of people--a mob is much better.

After all, one of the best hot dogs I ever had was when I was about seven years of age in the late 1950's, with my Dad and a few of his friends from work went to a Milwaukee Braves game at the old County Stadium. I got to see Eddie Mathews and Warren Spahn play.

I think that every hot dog I eat is judged up against those ballpark dogs and the memories that went with them.

Over dinner, I mentioned the unique and odd way I found myself in hot water, to wit my wife reminded me that the theme song to my life was recorded by Foreigner, and aptly entitled "Dirty White Boy." Of course, she was referring to the lyrics:

For those who don't know, Blondie is my daughter. And ....she's expecting her first baby. Due Feb 8th.
She has done a very good job managing her weight so far. The doctor has given her all A's. Now the holiday season is coming up. That will be the hardest part for her. :D

I like to wrap my hot dog with a strip of bacon and cook it on the grill. Maybe top it off with chili and cheese. Yep.:mrgreen:
