i watch this on tv and had to go find the recipe and make it.

http://www.foodtv.ca/recipes/recipedetails.aspx?dishid=9525

2 tbsp olive oil
2 onions, peeled and chopped
4 cloves garlic, peeled and minced (i used 6)
28 oz can whole tomatoes
2 cups chicken broth
1 tbsp dried oregano (used italian seasoning)
2 carrots, peeled and grated (i didnt have any so i put in some dried salami, about 10 thick slices)
8 oz Pepperoni, thinly sliced
Sprinkled sea salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
4 slices bread
2 cups grated Mozzarella cheese

i didnt have any french onion soup oven bowls so i used a stainless steel bowl

next time i would add a little more stock as the bread sucks alot of the juice.

will also add traditional pizza toppings next time.

this is a winner, just needs a little tweaking

I must say, that's the first time I've ever seen carrots substituted with Salami in a recipe before :ermm:

"2 carrots, peeled and grated (i didnt have any so i put in some dried salami, about 10 thick slices)"

Tell me that you substituted the salami for the pepperoni on the next line and not the carrots, Jeff

Thanks for the review and info. It looked like a winner. It''s nice to kow it is. :a1:

I still couldn't wrap my head around adding the carrots anyway. Have you ever had a pizza with carrots? Was it to sweeten the soup? It just seemed odd to me. The rest of it sounds delish!!

i have no idea what the carrots were for either, maybe to add some color to it, but to me it looked fine.

the other thing i would do for next time, is to make toasted garlic bread instead of the plain bread.
