Date Loaf

2 c sugar
2 tbsp light corn syrup
2 tbsp butter
1/2 c milk
1/2 pkg dates, chopped
1 c nuts chopped
1 tsp vanilla
Confectioners sugar

Mix together sugar, syrup, butter, and milk. Cook few minutes, add dates and nuts. Bring to a soft boil. Remove from heat, add vanilla and beat until mixture begins to cool. (loses shine). Pour onto wet cloth (tea towel) and roll. Place in cool place (not refrigerator at first) until set. Unroll onto wax paper covered with sifted confectioner's sugar. Coat roll with sugar. Re-roll in sugared paper and then in foil and refrigerate. Slice to serve.

Oh, this makes me want a trip by Hadley's!
They have AWESOME dates down in the Indio, Palm Springs area.
Some of them just melt in your mouth!
Getting them fresh where they are grown is just, well, awesome!

With some of those fresh dates, you could easily cut the sugar in half in the recipe, they are that sweet. Yum!

Hadley's and a couple other places down there will make a date milk shake too. delicious!
