...falls on his face.

I'm going to put this into the "serious" column, because it is. But please send some hijinx to our brother here, as well. Laughter is the best medicine.

Our friend Locutus took a bad fall going to the gym and might have some serious hand and wrist injuries. He relates that a Samaritan EMT stranger checked him out at the scene, and got him to his feet.

I can relate. I took the same type of fall about four years ago and broke my wrist and a bone inside my hand.

Now get this--as he's relating his plight and the possible ramifications of the injury, he adds, "And doggoneit, I won't get a chance to sharpen for a week..."

I told him years ago that putting a wet rock to a blade was a "curse," and of course we all laughed. It's a strict mistress.

Please send your warm regards to Locutus as he heals.

Did he fall of a bike, or just BIG feet?
Wish him well for me please. Thanks.

No bike, just his well trained, cat-like feet. He tripped over a section of raised concrete, caught his toe and went over.

He did go into the gym and tried a short work-out, as all of us "real men" would no doubt attempt. He had to stop.

My guess is that he will wake up tomorrow quite sore and stiff. All kidding aside, this is more than just a simple "face plant." I had to go to Dean Clinic's "hand specialty" department. There are many long term problems with serious hand breaks.

I encouraged him to get to a specialist and get an x-ray, even for hair-line fractures.

Oh, he'll be up tomorrow taking jibes at me, but he'll be typing with one hand!

wow, that sucks. I've had a hairline on my pinky and ring finger knuckles, that hurt like hell. I can only imagine the pain he has. I hope nothing is broken!!

I hope nothing is broken!!

So do I. Even though I joke with him to make him feel better, when I broke my wrist I went right from the ER to surgery. This is a very serious break.

And let's face it, they are just about out of "spare parts" on a chassis as old as Locutus and myself.

Ahh, yes, I remember the old days, the calendar of Joi Lansing at the blacksmith shop...

Boy, I hope the important stuff is okay. How will he sharpen?

Aww, Locutus, it sucks when one is klutzy. Last year, I fell in the hospital parking lot and sprained my ankle because I wanted to reach my mom in the ambulance so she wouldn't be afraid. I felt pretty dumb, too. I spent 2 months in a boot. Get well soon!

Hopefully he'll have a speedy recovery.

He's a tough old bird. Veteran and a retired cop. He now counsels troubled kids and their families. He has collected guns and knives his entire life.

If he owned a bike and had my thick hair he'd be downright perfect.

Thank you all!

Good news: nothing is broken!

Bad news, it still hurts like hell, and I'll be wearing a wrist brace for a week or so! :spacecraft:
