Uh oh - you're too new here to know that someone on this forum has an unnatural obsession with Rachael Ray. Really. This guy has more pics of her than her own parents do! Now he's gonna start posting them again.....

I miss David Rosengarten (not a chef) but a connosieur and cook and Sara Moulton who was a chef and a protege of Julia Child. I also miss the different bakers who use to be on Bakers' Dozen. I wish there were more real baking shows but it is hard to condense how to make something into a half hour.

Flay - Love his southwestern style of cooking and he is not afraid of spice and heat.

Batali - He seems to have a very grounded sense in cooking and a level of simplicity that I can appreciate.

Kwong - Because her dishes are natural, simple, and pure.

I just can't get over the Jeff Corwin thing... watching him on the Animal Planet channel, here he is doting over the animals, now he is gonna be eating them?

I know everyone eats, some eat meat, some not, just seems strange to see him say "Oh, look at this beautiful rare lizard, tastes pretty damn good grilled!"

I've often said that if I could have my dream job in cutlery it would be as a tinker for Cat Cora.

Yes, I know she plays for the other team. But she can make simple food. She's irreverant, I like that.

Most of all, she hawks Globals. I can turn her from that.

I watch Alton Brown, I wouldn't call him a chef, Alton is a great theory teacher. Bill Nye of the cooking world.

I can't think of any other 'chef' show I make a point of watching, but I do catch Hells Kitchen and Iron Chef.

Hells Kitchen because it's guilty pleasure of reality shows and Ramsey is like watching a Drill Instructor.

Iron Chef, mostly Simon and Flay, because I like watching competent people work.

My favorite chef's aren't on TV any more such as Martin Yan. There are a couple on now I can watch such a Mario Batali, Emeril as well as Tyler. I don't think Alton Brown is a chef or even plays one on TV but do enjoy his show good eats but don't catch it often any more. I do watch the original Iron Chef's show from Japan and have see a few episodes of the US version just comes on the wrong time for me. I also got into Top Chef and watch it as well as Gordon Ramsey's F...Word and Kitchen Nightmares but those are done in Europe and played on the BBC. These are just plain better than Fox's versions which I can't stomach at all so after catching a couple I simply don't watch them any more.

That thing about Cat Cora...
Hmmmm, I never realized, but yes, that makes sense now :bounce:

I used to watch Paula Deen all the time until she got too commercialized, now she reallllly stretches that fake laugh and has turned from a sweet southern gal to a loudmouth baudy broad who wears too much bling to cook.
Bobby Flay, Emeril, Jacques Pepin and Rick Bayless are my fav's. Rick can cook in my kitchen anytime! :whistling: - oh ya babe! lol

(with all due respect, goss)

does anyone else feel that booby flay's showdown was a show designed to grow him a personality?

i mean, he obviously has some knowledge and talent, but he was snobbish, prickish, and aloof when he first started on tv. he often still comes across that way, both on air and in person. i don't have anything against him; i don't think i'm any better, but a number of people who work with him have said as much.

but "throwdown" is a show where he's set up to lose, and then graciously accepts defeat, while showcasing his occasionally scripted talent. it really is a bit of programming genius. if he can be a decent guy when he loses, then maybe he's not so bad, and so on...

I have a couple I watch that are all re runs now. Mario Batali, Emeril, Giada De Laurentiis, Tyler Florence and Alton Brown who is not what I would call a chef. Basically any show I can learn from really. So of my all time favorites are not on TV any more such as Jeff Smith, Martin Yan, Justin Wilson, and Julia Child.

I can watch Paula Dean is small doses depending on what she is making, don't care much for Flay at all or Guy. I never found shows like the Iron Chef, Top Chef for example really a show about learning and more entertainment.

I can't say as I can disagree with you there. I like Bobby, like his shows, got his Just Grill It book and it is cool and full of ideas. But yea, his personality doesn't exactly leap out at ya, does it?
And I have never doubted those shows were scripted, so I don't know how much can be attributed to him and how much to good PR either.

Mine might confuse but Alton Brown isn't a chef guys. Now I do enjoy watching his show and have learned a lot except when it comes to knives.

Emeril simple the best of the bunch as far as actually cooking
Batali because I like his style and his show was great
Giada De Laurentiis just because
Iron Chefs is Morimoto he is a master of Japanese to US cooking.

Well, yes, BT, of course it's an obvious PR ploy to counteract the allegations that Bobby is arrogant and condescending.

I have never, ever had a problem with his personality or the way he comes across, but enough people did, and I'm sure that the Throwdowns were a way to show a humbler Bobby.

Jeff Smith, Justin Wilson, Giada, Jamie Oliver. Jeff was a good teacher, Justin was a great cook as well as an excellent story teller, Giada is a good cook as well as a decent teacher, Jamie is a sort of slob that can work magic, sometimes he over does it but most of the time he is a great teacher when cooking subjectivley.

Boy do I agree on Jeff Smith and Justin Wilson but Martin Yan was my all time favorite. Giada is a good cook all joking aside and has an informative show. Emeril is a really great cook and that I speak from first hand experience as I've tasted his cooking before. Now I don't like his Live show but the Essence was informative with out all the hoopla and canned response. I didn't watch Julia Child much but caught some though not as many as I would of liked. I've never though much of Jamie Oliver and only watched one show but it left me cold toward him so never bother again to watch.

another show we had was called Wok With Yan - Stephen Yan not related but Martin was an employee and had worked for Stephen Yan in the 1980s as demonstrator for Stephen's product.

Never heard of Stephan before but I can tell you, Martin got me back into cooking. I owned every cook book he wrote up till '98 when I lost them all. to be honest...none of them really inspire me anymore, excepy maybe Mario.
All the shows seem rushed, too worried about product placement and less about cooking. The early days of the food network were great, now I feel like I'm watching a combination of the view and QVC. Ever notice how all the pans are new ?
Emeril, Ming all started with realy good shows...you could actually find the ingredients in a store and follow their recipes. Now it seems they've got to be as exotic as possable, t out do the other shows:sad:

Thats what I watch Iron Chef for.

Alton Brown -- He actually teaches useful information. Plus Good Eats is so funny, not dumbed down and cool.

I've met Alton several times at events, he super cool, very nice and wickedly sarcastic. We've traded a few zingers, just about every time I talked with him. One cool dude!

I don't know that he's considered a "TV chef", but I really like Wylie Dufresne. I can't begin to grasp the "molecular gastronomy" concept, but I like the end result-cool! And he's the master of it. I'd love to eat at WD50 just once.

Aside from that, I like Tom Colichio. I've learned a lot from him on TV and also from his books. I like the way he chooses his ingredients, as well as how he builds his flavor profiles. "if it grows together, it goes together". Nuff said.

She's Nigella Lawson.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v309/urmaniac13/simoneR.jpg My personal favourite is Simone Rugiati, too bad he only does his shows in Italian. A DJ turned chef, pretty unconventional career change but he is very skilled with a lovely personality and a boy-next door type charm not unlike Jamie Oliver from his earlier days.
And ladies will agree that he is pretty cute too:mrgreen::tongue::kiss:

to be honest...none of them really inspire me anymore, excepy maybe Mario.

See if you get the Recipe.TV channel. All it is is different chefs...real chefs, doing demos. I get it on Fios. Also, local channels seem to have much better shows like PBS, WLIW.

Last time I saw her she got some junk in her trunk.
