How come when I click on New Posts here, even threads I have read will show up, but when I click on New Posts on NTT, the threads I have already read do not show up? Do I have something wrong in my settings?

It's probably the way Doc has things set up.
I like having the recent post show up with the new ones myself.

OK. Thanks, Jim
I'd guess it is because this forum is busier. New posts are all the new posts from the last time you visited. The last time the system shows you visited is shown by your name where you click for private messages.
Read posts should be regular while unread posts should show up as bold.
I checked the visitor profile messages and you all already have permission to delete any messages in your profile visitor message area. Can someone verify this for me?

OK, Doc. So if I stay logged in, they will always show up whether I've read them or not until I log out and return. Understood.
I've been clicking on New Posts to exit a thread and I guess I was expecting NOT to see the thread I just read, since it isn't new anymore.
What I've since been doing is marking all the threads read in Quick Links every now and then. This eliminates read messages from showing up.

I can't find where the delete button is....

I just checked, its the lower left hand corner of the block of visitor messages.
marked moderation, select delete.
First, check the box on the upper right hand of the vm you want to delete.
Then click the go button under moderation. The button will contain the total number of the messages you are changing. I think you will get a choice of a soft delete or a hard delete. I''m not sure what the difference is. The hard probably means gone forever, maybe soft means you can retrieve it. Doc?

Oh yeah... neat. I didn't check the botom.
Mine just came up soft delete. And yes, it works.

Yep, sounds like you got the jest of it CH.
Some forums use DB control for new posts and some use cookies. It's my option. I use cookies because after I reply to a thread I still want to see that thread when I click new posts. In DB mode you won't see the thread until someone else posts to it. I'm sure some prefer that way, but I don't so that is why the setting is as it is.
I thought this was at the end of TG's thread about visitor messages. I didn't mean to confuse the two threads. My bad.

I actually like the way New Posts works here. The ones I read are regular, and unread are bold. Often, I like to go back an re-read a good thread, so it helps to have it remain visible.

Or you could make a quick post to the thread and subscribe to it
What I find a little weird, is that I can read a thread on one computer, close the site out, open it on another computer, click on New Posts and the threads I have read will show up as unread even though there haven't been any new posts. Sometimes clicking on the thread will open it up where it last did on my other computer, at what used to be the first unread message.
I suppose if I logged out and deleted my cookies easch session that a lot of those things wouldn't happen.

If Doc is using cookies to track you visits, then that definitely explains why read posts become un-read when you come back! I actually don't subscribe to posts because it fills up my user CP page since I'm a blabber mouth!

LOL mine too, I need to set it to not subscribe! And yes, Fred, the cookies are on one computer but not on the other so it shows as un-read on the new computer. So, unless you want to send the cookies back and forth between computers not much you can do about that.

Interesting, Mav, but I don't have this problem on my bike or ATV forum.
And believe me, this isn't really a problem at all, just more of an annoyance. Maybe it is how the site is set up to track me. All that big brother and all (lol).

I re-read Doc’s post more carefully, and he is using cookies. But, other forums can apparently set it up so that the tracking is done on the server meaning no matter what PC you login in from your tracking stays the same.

Thanks, Keltin.
Maybe I should just start using my laptop for surfing. That would fix everything.
