Only thing to say is he was the best!

CHICAGO – *Dave Brubeck, the pianist whose performances helped define West Coast "cool jazz" during the 1950s, died Wednesday of heart failure at the age of 91, the Associated Press reported. Brubeck, who would have celebrated his 92nd birthday on Thursday by performing in Waterbury, Conn., was on his way to a cardiologist appointment in Hartford when he was stricken, the news service said. Brubeck's legendary quartet of the '50s and '60s, featuring alto saxophonist Paul Desmond, was one of the most popular jazz acts of all time. Its 1959 LP "Time Out" was a great hit for Columbia , sparked by the Desmond composition "Take Five," which became Brubeck's signature tune. Last year, "Time Out" was awarded Double Platinum status by the RIAA in recognition of sales of more than two million copies in the U.S.
