View Full Version : It's a sad weekend here.

After 14 years, we had to put down our Babygirl this weekend. The diabetes had ravaged her to the point that keeping her alive for us was just terribly unfair to her.
Of all our dogs, she was the most cheerful no matter what happened to her. Two surgeries on her pancreas, twice daily insulin shots, no 'special treats' or good tasting foods, and through it all, she was a real trooper.
We had done everything we could for her; we brought her back from the edge several times, we loved her, we spoiled her, we did everything we could to give her a good life. But it was time to let her go. Now she's up in doggy heaven with Teddy & Peanut, whom she loved, and Cricket, whom she tolerated. I know she's there, because she was such a good dog.
Goodbye Squirt! We'll miss you.

Peace
Oh SS, I'm so very sorry. She'll be waiting there to greet you one day with her tail just a waggin'
Kathy, I'm so sorry - it's absolutely the hardest thing to do. Your post brings back heart-breaking feelings for me.
She was a lovely little girl.

Saying goodby tears at your heart but think of all the joy she brought.

My dog is also diabetic and receives 2 insulin shots daily since she was 2. She recently was going through kidney failure. We are nursing her back to health and she is holding her own. She is only 8 years old.
So sorry to hear this. I know how sad it is to lose a beloved pet. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I know how you feel, Kathy. It is a most difficult task but the alternative is cruel. Stay strong.
So sorry for your loss Kathy.
When I was in a similar situation a friend shared this with me. It helped me and I hope it helps you.
LEND ME A PUP
I will lend to you for awhile,
a pup, God said,
For you to love him while he lives
and mourn him when he's dead.
Maybe twelve or fourteen years,
or maybe two or three.
But will you, 'till I call him back,
take care of him for me?
He'll bring his charms to gladden you
and (should his stay be brief)
you'll always have his memories
as solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay,
since all from earth return
But there are lessons taught below
I want this pup to learn.
I've looked the whole world over
in search of teachers true,
And from the folk that crowd life's land
I have chosen you.
Now will you give him all your love
Nor think the labour vain,
Nor hate me when I come to take
my sweet Pup back again?
I fancied that I heard them say
"Dear Lord Thy Will be Done,"
For all the joys this Pup will bring,
the risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shelter him with tenderness,
we'll love him while we may,
And for the happiness we've known
forever grateful stay
But should you call him back
much sooner than we've planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes,
and try to understand.
If, by our love, we've managed,
your wishes to achieve
In memory of him we loved,
to help us while we grieve,
When our faithful bundle
departs this world of strife,
We'll have yet another Pup
and love him all his life.

So sorry Kathy. I have been there with kitties in the past. It is very painful but your heart will heal and have an imprint of her with you always to cherish. XOXOXO
That's beautiful Doc. I too have lost pets and it really hurts. Remember the happy times Peeps.

Quote from my favorite childhood author Dr. Seuss: Don't cry because its over. Smile because it happened. There is a great deal of truth in that.

Very sorry to hear that SS, I know how hard it is to do. A fellow homebrewer put it this way once... "It's the hardest, and best thing you can do for your friend. All at the same time".
