That will be an option real soon. All Super Site Supporters get to modify their member title as they see fit. So ... next week, once I finish setting that up you can jump on the band wagon as a SSS. :D More details as I have time. :D

Wasn't the decoder ring from Captain Midnight for his space cadets. They actually decoded the secret messages which was another Bosco or Ovaltine commercial can't remember which now..

I would guess it was first used in Gilbert and Sullivan's the Mikado or Happy Days where it was the head guy at the Leopard Lodge.

Well, there are two references to Grand Poobah that I know of.

First was in the Honeymooners.

Second was in the movie Delores Claiborne...when Delores said she didn't care if so and so was the Grand Poobah of Upper Butt Crack.

Personally, I prefer Delores' Grand Poobah to Jackie Gleason's.

And...I didn't have to google either one of them.
