I don't think there is any policy against it at DC. I was just told not to copy and paste recipes from that site to here - unless they were my own recipes.

They are great people - DC has a different "culture" to it than this board, and the mods work very hard to keep it that way. There's room on the Internet for both (and more), obviously. I don't understand, though, why people are being "punished" for choosing another venue...is there more to it than that????

The main difference I notice is that the mods/admins/site owner on this board are part of the group. They do not think they are above anyone or that the rules they expect you to follow don't apply to them (and not everybody at DC was like that). Lead by example it's called.
And that's all I have to say on that. It's not fair to this forum to keep discussing that forum.... IMO :smile:

So many folks want to be a mod, it surprises me. One thing I tell everyone when they are invited to join the mod team is that being a mod makes you look at things differently. It can ruin your fun on a forum. I've seen lots of mods that would be better off stepping back into being a good contributing member than be a mod. It's not fun. It puts you in a spot where you have to decide who's right and you never please everyone. You end up moderating friends, and many times they do not understand why, and they feel picked on. It's a tough thankless job, but somebody has to do it.

BuckyTom, if mods are feeling a strain doing their job on any site, they are free to give it up and just become a normal member. No one forces a moderator to continue in that position. It is a lot of work but it also gives one a lot of power over others and there should be a check on that power. It is called democracy--a system of checks and balances. The group should decide the rules and regs that they want to live under. If there are questions about decisions one should be able to resolve them in an adult fashion with the mods openly or via private message.

Susan, these a free public forums and the administrator sets polices, not the membership. The moderators are obliged to obey the admin rules and there is little that can be done. Yes, it is possible that admin might listen to the membership and change policies but there is certainly no obligation to do so. As members, if we don't like the rules, we can as easily leave as we joined. Think of it as a friendship gone bad. As to the recipe question, there are probably no copyright issues with those posted nor are royalties being charged. What's the big deal? I'd love to have any of my recipes posted elsewhere by anyone who wishes to.

FryBoy here -- a.k.a. Scotch on DC.

FryBoy was banned from DC a couple of years ago after telling the moderators to shove it. Long story if anyone's interested.

I was then reborn on DC as Scotch with a new Yahoo e-mail to sign up. Moderators never figured it out, even though I was posting the same recipes and photos.

Anyway, this looks like a better place for me. Too many purely social comments, games, and other silliness to wade through on DC. I hope this site maintains its focus on food and cooking.

Oh, my opinion as to why so many have been banned recently on DC is simply that a couple of the moderators have gotten power crazy.

I prefer to move on as well, but when you have DC Admins like GB running around with sockpuppets (Saco on here), makes it kinda hard for those he is bothering.
But that's OK, his time here will teach him that unlike at DC, you can't get banned for what you say somewhere else or for having your own opinion. You can only get banned for a direct violation of the rules here. Nothing at all like DC, so maybe some good will come of this and he will take some ideas back to DC on how to improve things over there.
But more likely he will just continue to be a control freak who just can't help himself, up at all hours face glued to the screen searching and obsessing... I would feel pity for him, but I have lost entirely too much respect for him to have any.
