Mine hooks up via usb. Simply plug the scanner into the USB hook up on my computer.
Or we have the option of using it wireless. If the two are right next to each other, it's best to use a wired connection IMHO.

what kind of scanner printer is it?

hi, doc! this has a usb cable, although the 1 port on my desktop is occupied by my mouse. i searched 4 another; there's only that port. jake hooked this printer into my comp before, though, so there's a way.
i'm getting a mouse that doesn't have a cord then begin again. my usb'll be open then, for the printer to hook into.
thankx!

this is baffling me.

You should have more than 1 usb port. Take your time and look around the back, top and front. My puter has them on the front and on the back.

Ahhh, you need a USB Hub. This will allow you to hook multiple USB devices to your computer even though you only have one on board port.
Here is a link with some Hubs:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=392&SRCCODE=WEBGOONET&cm_mmc_o=mH4CjC7BBTkwCjCECjCE

or google USB Hubs and you'll see lots more options. Even Wallmart should have these. A very common device nowdays.

Try this:

1. Hold down the Windows key on your keyboard (the key with the Windows logo) and with it held down, hit the BREAK key (it's located to the right of the F1 - F12 keys).

2. That opens the System Properties box. Click on the HARDWARE Tab.

3. Click on the DEVICE MANAGER button.

4. At the bottom, click on "Universal Serial Bus Controllers".

If more than one is listed there, then you have more than one somewhere on your PC.

Some PCs hide them behind a plastic door/panel that you can raise or open.
