Well, I'm sitting here on the puter, Martha's on and no, it wasn't her.....

3 in a row sonic BOOMS! Everything rattled, settled down, then 2 more times!
What the heck is going on?
Buzzard, Grantskat, anyone else from Florida, did you feel/hear this? Around 10:05 am.
They freak me out!
Do we have a space launch today? I didn't hear anything about it.

Wow! No I didnt hear a thing and if there was something going on at the space center I think I would have heard it....we usually hear the shuttle take off, its not really loud, but definitely noticable

Well then they maybe blasting in the area for building.
But they're supposed to go door to door to notify us and give company, state & local info, so if there's cracking or damage, yo have contact #s.

When a contractor 1st came by about 6 years ago with notices, I was amused, thinking, why would they have to dynamite SAND?
Then he said, well, below the sand is coral as hard as concrete/cement (I can never keep those 2 straight)
I had a DUH! moment.

I hate those rumbles. They're exactly like earthquakes!
Even the dog starts and let's out a short bark.

I just spoke to the dad, who lives in the next town.
He heard them too.
Maybe the military is doing exercises over the Gulf.

That would scare the crap out of me CL! The only time I heard them is when the space shuttle blew up several years ago streaking across Texas.

Boy, did I think you were going to make a wise crack, sattie.
That's why I made sure the dad heard it too. LOL!

You better get some medical note for that, or they just might!
Did you at least call the clerk. If not, I would today. A.S.A.P.
Now you're gonna make me worry about you.

I only time I would hear a sonic boom in L.A. is when the Shuttle lands in the desert northeast of us. I dig it every time it happens.

I tried to call, but could not get through. Really think I can get in that much trouble?

I lived in South Florida for a most of my life being born there. I still remember the Cuban Missile crisis as they moved fighters to the Miami International Airport which was very close to the house I grew up in. Also had Homestead AFB to the south where it wasn't uncommon to hear them all day long. If a fighter leaves Homestead which is still used for reserve training you could easily hear them on the west side of the state depending on their flight path.

I don't know. I'd keep trying. You know how they do things BIG there.
They'll have rangers out lookin for ya, and you'll have to start baking to bribe them off.
Then we'll see

Could be fighter jets, they create 'sonic' booms. Construction and detonation will cause more of a shock wave but can sound like a sonic boom.

When a jet fighter kicks on its after burner sounds almost like a sonic boom also.

We experienced roughly ten sonic booms spaced over a thirty minute time frame. It's the military. They really aren't supposed to be flying supersonic within civilian range, but boys will be boys. Nothing new here. This is how they learn how to really fly so let it happen. We used to do it a lot over Japan and I'll bet those little ole' chopsticks were bouncing off the table. The booms are very evident in that my sliding glass doors vibrate like mad, although NOTHING like the space shuttle reentries which produces two large waves. Boom...BOOM. You can always tell when our astronauts are coming home.

There is no construction is SW FL. The building industry is temporarily dead.

I heard one once when I was little at my gramma's house in Chester,IL... about an hour south and across the river from St.Louis.
All I remember it was REALLY loud and my tall glass bottle (remember those?) of Mountain Dew flew outta my hand and shattered all over her driveway.

I used to hear them as a kid in Delaware and Maryland, but I haven't heard one in years. We have cannons here. They shoot em off everyday at sunset at Ft. Sam Houston.
