View Full Version : Update on Dawn
Hi guys
Sorry I haven't been around much lately but Dawn went through the surgery on her left wrist this morning just fine. They put 3 wires (pins) through each large piece of her wrist and pulled it all back together then shot it with the equivalent of human supper glue. They put a new cast on her arm so now she will be able to move her elbow with it just from her fore arm to her palm. She is left handed so not much she can do but at least no complications.
Meanwhile her thyroid seems to be function at normal levels for now as she had the iodine isotope 2 months ago. She will probably be put on a pill to keep it level when she sees her doctor in another week. As for her heart problems those are under control now that her thyroid is functioning at normal levels though she is still on a very low dose of coumadin but should be off of it soon as well.
Well that is pretty much it for awhile but will try to get back in here a little more soon.

Oh gosh, Joe! Poor Dawn has really had a rough time this year! Is she awake yet? Is she having any pain? Will she go home today? I'm glad to hear the surgery went well today. How long will she have the cast on?

We had to be at the hospital at 5 AM which at that time of the morning means we have to leave at 4:45. She was taken in at 5 to prepare her for the surgery at 7 AM first of the day for the surgeon. The procedure took about 2 hours then about 2 hours in recovery. I brought her home about 1 PM today. She was pretty much in the bag on the way home and is still a bit dingie but she is coming around pretty quickly now. She actually made herself something to eat while I went to get her pain script. As for pain she still isn't feeling much as of yet but they gave her 2 different types of pills. One for day time and one she takes before going to bed. They made no cuts just went through the skin then caught the bones and pulled them into place with the wires. Once they had that like I said they filled the little spots (too small of bone fragments to catch) with the human super glue I mentioned. The doctor showed us picture of before and after though Dawn don't even remember him in her room. :dizzy: He really did pull it all back into place with one large fragment had moved up her arm about 2". As for the cast they figure 6 to 8 weeks then physical therapy for awhile to get used to using the wrist again.
She will overcome just because of the statement in green. My thoughts and wishes to her and you. Good luck to both of you!!! :flowers:
Odds are you are correct. She broke it on January 31st and has been in a cast since then with them just getting her into surgery today. She is actually writing more legibly with her right hand than she ever did with her left.
Good thoughts, well wishes and prayers to you and yours Joe.
Thanks Adillo.

I just saw this now, Joe. I hope that Dawn is healing nicely. It doesn't surprise me that another mollyduker can write with her right hand. As a kid, I did when I broke the ring finger on my left hand.
Yes Susan her handwriting is better right than left now go figure.

Hey Joe, I didn't realize what was going on.... Please give her a big hug from the Prince clan!
I will Warren, and thanks.
Yes she fell on Jan. 31 while walking around picking up trash and of course broker her fall with her strong arm. Her wrist as the doctor described it was like dropping a sugar cube on the floor and steeping on it. You get big pieces and little pieces in her case she had 3 pieces large enough to get a pin (wire really) through it and pulling it back into place. The last two years haven't been good for Dawn but as I said she is a tough old bird and will ride it out I'm sure. At any rate she should heal but as to how much mobility is yet to be seen.
Thanks Rob she will, she is a tough old bird. She has to be, being married to YOU! Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
Now you nailed it Joe, any one that would put up with me for 46 years is either nuts or just plan tough. She is still living so my vote is tough.
I'm the first to say I'm not easy to live with but she turns me into a pussy cat while anyone else would have regretted it by now. Thanks Joe I will pass it along to her.
Best wishes for a quick recovery for Dawn Joe.
Good thoughts and prayers coming her way!
(I'm writing this from a hospital bed, look for a new post about that soon)

How is she feeling today, Joe? Is she having much pain?
More like a little discomfort that pain according to her. She is running the auto pay credit card tenants today so can't be feeling too bad. They have her on a basic Tylenol type pain killer during the day with a much stronger one she takes after eating and before going to bed.

Catching up on this thread, Joe. Best wishes for a successful recovery. Tell Dawn to fogetabout using her tight hand for writing her signature. She'll be fine.
She is writing pretty well right handed now, better than I could with my left.
