View Full Version : Lets Move On!

I originally joined this forum as a result of issues that I had over on DC. I know many of you have had similar issues and I totally understand the frustration and the need to vent. But I would really like to see us move past this and enjoy talking about food and other subjects that are not geared toward the hardships some have suffered at DC.

I may be the minority here, but that is my stance on things. I'm not trying to be the rah rah lets all be happy, but at the same time, I don't want us all to be preoccupied with something that obviously we have no control over. And just for the record... I have done my share of venting!

I'm ready to move on and enjoy what this place was meant for. I like the fact that there is a bit more freedom here, but at the same time I don't want to abuse it either. I just would like this to be a forum that anyone can feel comfortable at. I realize that this place may not be for everybody, but I do feel that NCT has quite a bit to offer and potential.

Ok.... I'm done.... I'll go crawl back in my hole and shut up now.

Hi YT.
Nice to see you again.
How bout an intro thread for those members who don't know you?

Or maybe you've already got one....

It has been very interesting to watch the reactions of each of us as we "ported over" to a place with we feel more comfortable, and where we can be ourselves. Yes, it's time to get over the past hurts and move on, because we have so much more to share, and we can do it in an environment where a little irreverence and dark humor is not frowned upon. I stayed out of Barbara's departure thread out of respect for her. I had the pleasure to break bread with she and James when they came through our little burgh, and they are lovely people. I'll say no more other than "Thanks for at least looking, Barbara."

Let's nip this crappola in the bud and start doing the foodie thing. Anyone know what this lump of stuff might be made from? Can anyone say Hawaii? (Two hints there)

Hey, welcome, YT!!! I was wondering why it took you so long to get over here!

Looks like I've joined you in the "members BANNED" camp - I can't get into DC this morning.

I'm kinda surprised I lasted as long as I did. LOL!

I can't get into DC this morning. It's nothing you did. Their server is down. This happens periodically for maintenance or just because the hosting company might be experiencing problems. Check back in an hour or so.

I'm ready to move on and enjoy what this place was meant for.

First off, Sattie, I've always respected you. And I'm 95% with you here on this topic. I'm ready to have some fun, myself. But I do have a core belief, and it applies here.

I hate bullies. In fact, I think "contempt" is a better word.

In the world of forums we all know the sort that utilizes bandwidth bravado. Let's suppose that our group on Net Cooking wasn't an internet organization. For the sake of debate, let's suppose that we were a group of old friends who met every morning for latte' at a cafe.

Do you honestly believe "you know who" would lip off? Do you think this individual would do anything but whimper?

It he wouldn't do it under those conditions, he shouldn't do it on the 'net. There are real people at the other end of these computers. He hurts people's feelings, he acts like a little corporal and frankly, he should learn how to play softball and figure out how to talk to women.

Because I assure you, this is the kind of guy who gets picked last and he and olive oil share a unique condition.

As you'll remember I got banned for failure to genuflect and making jokes about the Scopes monkey. Mercy, I commit more sins just walking to my bike, much less riding it. What a J-O-B his mother did to him.

DING< DING< DING< DING< DING< DING! Excellent choice. SPAM Spread. I love SPAM, and took this to a party where there were avowed SPAM haters. They ate it and loved it!

SPAM run thru the food processor.
Mayo
Sweet relish
Garlic powder
Onion powder

Nope, there are no measurements. I mix it together as I go and taste my way to perfection.:thumb:

Hey, do you still want that clay baker? it's sitting in my utility room with your name on it.

Spam is the state meat of Hawaii by the way. You guys do know that not all of us know what forum you refer to as DC as I only go to 4 food related forums and one rarely because it traffic is very low.

Hey, I love Spam. I have a vintage can of it from the 1950s, and there's seventeen more years left before the expiration date.

That's what I love about Scientifically Permeated Atomic Mulch.

It's paving material, it can stop a bullet, in the event of a power failure the stuff even glows in the dark. Some people eat it.

That's what I was talking about the other night, Joe. To get a hold of you, one needs to send a PM, even for general gabbing. Your Visitor Messages isn't being displayed on your page. I have no idea how to fix that though, since mine has always been enabled. I didn't even know you could turn it off.

I simply used the defaults when I signed up here only adding a signature, a profile including my email address and my avatar. I did uncheck one thing on receiving email in regards to every post to me but that shouldn't do it I would think.

I'll look into this for you joe. I'm not sure what the issue is. But, can't everyone see a visitor message where a private message is private. Why send visitor messages instead of just posting public. I'm confused on this feature as it is a new one in VB and I have never posted a visitor message.

I wasn't real keen on it at first either, but let's say someone says something in a thread that makes you think about something off topic you want to tell them. And you really don't care if anyone else sees it. I think it works well for this, for saying what's on your mind without getting the thread totally off topic.
Like this thread for instance.
:yum:

Or for just a general, "thanks for the karma". Those PM inboxes can fill up fast. Even if you don't save your sent ones.

To access visitor messaging, go to that person's profile page. I usually do it by clicking on their user name in a post. There is a box at the top for writing messages & all previous messages to that person are displayed.
To respond to a visitor message, you need to click "view conversation" and then write yoiur message.

These are useful for keep 1 liner comments like thanks or a brief comment on the post.

I generally agree with you Sattie, I just think there is a lot of pent up anger and it is taking some longer than others to get it out so to speak.
Also, some came here before others, so new ones that have 'defected' may be just starting their venting while those that have been her awhile have moved on.
I think with a little patience it will start to settle down and people will work it out of their systems.
I do also feel that we need to be more careful for the newbies sake, some of this may scare them off inadvertently.
