Gotta have a balance, so what makes you HAPPY?? For me, its my family especially my kids.
Happy is walking into Dunkin Donuts for coffee (it was late and our usual place was closed) and finding it on sale 1lb for $5.99.
Happy is a forecast that says snow, then nothing happens!
So, what makes ya happy??
BamsBBQ
01-31-2009, 02:53 PM
family, friends and cooking good bbq for both of them
drinking Tim Hortons coffee...that always makes me happy :thumb:
My wife and kids, grand kids and great grand kids.
Ripping around a good road course in my mustang as fast as it will go.
A dozen filled Krispy Kreme donuts or a good meal at home.
I'm really pretty easy these days to make happy.

Excellent bluesy jazz, a great cocktail, a sultry evening that's not too humid, wearing a great pair of heels and being with Lou.... I can pretty much count on all of that each Friday or Saturday evening with the exception of the sultry evening. It's too damn cold lately......
Listening to Etta James right now...
I am never as happy as I am sitting on the beach. I love the scent of the ocean, the sound of the surf and the gulls.
Every muscle relaxes. I sigh and I smile.
Now, if the water is a clear turquoise and warm, and the sand feels like confectioner's sugar, I am delirious!
Thanks for starting this thread, Mav! :thumb:

LOL I HATE misspelling a thread title... so aggravating and you cannot edit... I am a wretched speller too... on my local blog one of my neighbors asked me if I was still drunk... because the last time I had seen him was a few days before at a new years party.... I informed him I could misspell perfectly well sober thank you!
"If you like Pina Coladas, and walking in the rain..."
Fun Pancho Fact... Rupert Holmes lived in my neighborhood growing up... and yes I love that silly song
Things that make me happy... good topic Mav.. I tend to ge negative in winter
The sun.. I think I suffer a bit from SAD... we had one sunny warm day a week ago and my moot was amazingly elevated
The ocean... I love the beach.... even grimy beach like Coney Island or Galveston... totally re-centers me. I don't know how I would deal living more than a day-trip drive from a coast.
Cooking something really good always makes me happy... sharing it with others and having them enjoy it even better.
The fact that my parents worry about me
hearing my n'er do well brothers voice... we've been through alot.. there is nobody I love more.. in the back of my mind I am always worried about him so hearing him happy and well brings me joy even If I don't like his choices.
The unconditional love of my dogs... even though they are really bad dogs & my cats silly antics
Seeing my neigborhood gradually improve... anytime another abandoned house gets renovated or a new business opens I feel good about what me and others are doing to make things better
Seeing the local kids ongoing game of pickup football on one of the lots on my block... there is so much trouble for them to get into around here and so many of them are from rough families so seeing them doing something like that... even in the blistering cold is nice.
When an old song I liked but had forgotten comes on the radio

Sometimes I think that we were separated at birth except I only dominate pastry. I could say the exact same thing except I don't have a Lou right now to share that with on the weekends.
I was going to hear The Reid Project Jam every Thursday night at a little hole in the wall called, "The House of Swing where jazz is king". It was one of my favorite ways to unwind especially when Miss Butterscotch is there to sing. I could go for a night out and some live music.
I actually love all the cultural pursuits: museums, live music, live dance, theatre and independent and foreign film.
Being a caregiver has made it harder to avail of these favorite pastimes but I still try to go.
I also love to go for a massage and enjoy a trip down south in the winter. These things make me happy. Baking use to make me happy.
I know!!!! These make me ecstatic:

What makes me happy - Thanks for the thread Mav.
My weinerdog/baby sleeping with his back up against the middle of mine to keep me warm this afternoon. I came down with a cold and fever and he must have known it. It's been 88 to 40s and back up all week and it was just a matter of time, so I decided to lay down for a few hours. It was like a bomb hit me.
And I had planned to prep for dad's 78th birhtday party tomorrow. I'll get it all done, but lost 3 hours.
But I'm glad I still have my dad and I live near enough to see him 3 sometimes 4 times a week.
And I'm happy we talk 1-2 times a day and end with, "I love you".

Like others, Family makes me happy. If they are not all okay and in touch nothing else matters or will make me happy. Bailey our Great Dane makes me happy. Like QSis I have one place that I am happier than all others. On my boat on a sunny WARM day. The beach and ocean is a close 2nd. If I can't be on the boat, I'd settle for a nice beach at the ocean.

Speaking of traffic tickets, I think I dodged one this morning. I was going a few mph over 65 in a 55 as most people on my route do, when my LIDAR detector went berserk. I jammed my brakes and as I continued, I saw a sheriff perched in the median behind a snow bank, the sneaky bastard.
I was behind one car, but there were no other cars close either in front or in back of our lane, and as I passed the sheriff I could see him dropping his gun and getting ready to go. By the time he was ready to pursue there was a loooong line of cars that he had to wait for. The car in front and I both moved to the right lane to await our fate, and after a while I could see sheriff really moving in the left lane with lights on. To my surprise he got within about 5 cars of me merged right, and pulled someone else over... Whew!
Of course I'm not 100% certain if I was the guy he was after, those LIDARs have a long range, and I was going more than 10 over, but I'm just going to chalk it up to good road Karma anyway! That and driving a nondescript silver sedan!

I am beginning to seriously plan to go away and take a much needed break to recharge my batteries. My mom is getting better and if I don't take of myself, I will be no good for either of us.
I see palm trees in my future--maybe mid march or early april. I was suppose to already be there but just the thought of those palm trees swaying in the gentle breeze and the sun gently beating down on my skin as I lounge by the pool. Sigh....If I try hard, I can almost go there in my head. The pool has a beautiful waterfall and there is a bar to tend to my iced tea needs and now, they have people who will apply your sunscreen for you. Yes, this is where I am and where I am going. I see the Red Door spa and my favorite massotherapist...

Yay.... I got the new key for my car on Friday
Was able to order it overnight from Mercedes for $20... way cheaper than I thought it would be... thank god I dont have one of those new fangeled chip keys... and it Worked... I was scared because the car is 20yo so I was banking on the fact that it had never been rekeyed.
Monday I will go order another so the same disaster does not befall me again.

It is March and although we shall be getting more cold and snow, we are that much closer to spring.
My mom didn't have to stay in the hospital and is on antibiotics and she ate better yesterday and mentally she was doing better.
I am lucky to have the Phoenix Roastery where I can purchase small batch professionally roasted coffee for my regular cuppa joe.
I found you guys who seem to understand the kind of stress that I have been under and make allowances for it.
I get to talk baking and help folks find recipes and learn more food history and lately I am learning about knives.
I got a copper bowl--now I need the right kitchen aid mixer for it.

I found out last night that it really is true, one can't actually die from embarassment. We all make mistakes and it is o.k. to let oneself off the hook.

oh I don't think it is all that exciting to anyone else... its a proposal for a senior community and assisted living facility ... Its just cool because all I have is a program and a site and a lot of room to think about how to make it all work and this is the part of my job I enjoy (sketching and thinking). Also its a waterfront redevelopment site so a bit more interesting than a lot of the buildings we are just plonking in the burbs.... I just enjoy actually being asked to think at work... and having a boss who I am able to have a dialog with after. If it become a real project it would be really exciting though.
I am also happy because I should be going up to NYC this weekend for some family celebration.... my aunt (moms baby sis) is turning 50 which is crazy because she was a teenager when I was born and so we are more like friends... of course my family cannot plan anything smoothly so god know what we are actually doing... I also hope to catch up with some other friends while I am up there which will be nice.

Ok I am happy.. had a great weekend
The brewery down the street threw a party here are some pics (not mine and I am not in them)http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3393/3342042306_aee78d5c8b.jpg
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3634/3342042262_7c9c8df984.jpg
we followed up a afternoon of free food and beer with more food and beer by grilling on the sidewalk in front of my friends house
Sunday I went up to NY for a big family party in Little Italy which turned out great and it was nice to see all my cousins and the fine young people they are growing up to be (there's a bunch in their early 20s and they are all really great kids)
Then on the way home driving down the Jersey Turnpike there is a car trying to get my attention.. really trying as I generally ignore what I think are crazy people on the road
well they finally did and pointed out that my muffler was scraping...when I pulled over they even pulled over to make sure I knew what they were getting at... Now its the Turnpike at 10:30 PM on a Sunday not really a place where I expect people to go out of their way to be helpful.. but these guys did.. and that was cool. I did not know and they may have saved me a ticket... costly repair or causing an accident if the thing had fallen off (its a new muffler BTW so the shop is taking care of it now) I rigged it up safe enough for the trip. I think they were Nat. Guard because they were wearing fatigues but they were off duty driving a private vehicle... anyway cool on them to go out of their way.
And I found out that two of my good friends are expecting... both really awesome intelligent good looking couples so that is great
The trees are starting to bud out and and the bulbs are starting to pop..
all it takes is a bit of sunshine, some family and friends to make Pancho happy..

gotta love 5 year olds....His first lost tooth - that's great, BT!!! He's really growing up! You found it on the floor? Man, you're lucky. The first one is usually traumatic - will all my blood come out, how will I eat with this hole in my mouth, etc. - that is, until they get the first visit from the tooth fairy. Fisher checks all his teeth daily in hopes of finding a loose one, now. He was bummed to find out that the adult ones don't come out. Oh, and that chocolate coin is a one time deal. Next time, it'll be a video game!

he was eating rye toast that morning, and the tooth fell out amidst the trail of crumbs that he leaves everywhere he goes. (i guess the boy doesn't like getting lost, lol.)
so, when dw realized that his tooth was gone, we picked up and crushed each of the crumbs until we found one that was very hard.
he's so proud that he's a big boy now.
unfortunately, dw said he gets a dollar for the first tooth, and it goes up for each tooth he loses.

Through the years, they had a very good time playing that game. One day, the woman starts running a bit more slowly and saying "catch me.... catch me" without the same verve as she did back in the day. The husband followed slowly, and said, "Is it allright if I catch you tomorrow?"
I really prefer the Texas Girl handle to the other kid.

I heard from a good friend today, and am very happy for them that they are doing well. Also happy that most of my team survived the layoffs we had on Friday.

Well it happens to the best of us kid, keep that in mind. But when you catch them it is still as good as it always was. Beside I tell my wife now I have a 24 hour turn around time unlike when we was young with a 20 minute turn around time.

[quote=Biskit;45312]I do, too. Life gets so damned busy that pretty soon a couple becomes just roomies.
Y'gotta take time out for just the two of you. I like to go out because there's no distractions of tv or computer.

DW have the weekend to ourselves next weekend - the boys are going away for the weekend for a Youth Group event.

I finally got to see my mom today and she is doing lots better than I expected! I took her to this little diner in the home and she had a lox and bagel sandwich and happily ate the whole thing. This is big as she has not been eating well. It made me feel better and I am not as worried now. Sometimes, there is nothing like seeing for oneself. She is stronger, can walk well, and get in and out of a chair. I think she needs more rehab but she is doing far better than I anticipated as she doesn't always eat. It is as if a huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders and I think that in April, I may actually be in S. Fla.
I'm glad to hear your mom's doing better. Maybe with spring coming it will pick up her spirits.

I've been discharged from jury service. Back to normal living, at least what passes for normal around here.
The boys are also going away for the weekend - DW & I together alone for 2 day:circle:s.:dancing::thewave:

I'm happy that until Easter I have the farmers' market to go to every wednesday. (they stop when the snowbirds go home) I get the freshest stuff, and cheaper than supermarket crap, and the money goes to local producers.
I also get stuff for the dad and get to spend time with him talking about what we like most-food, and do some puttering around with or for him. And we both feed our endorphines with hugs!
I got the best dad! And even at 53, I'm still his only little girl! And I can still wrap him around my finger! Meaning, when he's crabby, which he is increasingly, I think from boredom and not so good health, somehow I can snap him out of it. At least temporarily.
