This is the potica I made this past week. It's the first time I've done this on my own, it was always with my grandmother. It doesn't look pretty from the outside but it sure tasted good!! I got the recipe from JoeVs' brother and it's very similar to my grandmothers. I believe it's on Joe's website.
I also promised someone I would post this today. lol

It's like a nut roll. The filling is walnuts, sugar, lemon zest, honey, etc.

It's absolutely gorgeous, Barb! Look at all those beautiful layers. I'll bet a slice looks fabulous on a plate - Santa would definitely pick this over cookies any day!

That looks great, and yes with a cup of coffee it would be heaven!
Which site is the recipe on? I thought Joe's was 'Breadtopia' but a search there didn't yield anything, so I must be wrong.

Barb, there are nut makosh as well that are just about identical to potica. In fact, you can use that dough with your filling. I posted that recipe a while a go.

Holy Pelosi - I'm getting Barb's homemade Potica!!!! (I must have been a very, very good girl this year, huh?)
You are the best BFF in the world, Barb. I'm no cook, though, so you're getting sex toys from me. I hope this is OK.

Yes, it is very involved. You definitely need patience. This is half of the dough rolled out....I don't remember how long I got it and it has to be see-through. That is the same table cloth my grandmother used when she made it. You do need a table cloth.....

Just seeing this............no, it's not plastic. I don't think that would work.

It's really amazing how the dough can be rolled out so thin.

Liked it? I LOVE it!
It reminds me of something I've had before, but I don't know what.
Between that, the pecan tassies and the snowballs and kolachy, AND Joe's buns, I was running around like a nutcase on a sugar high! haha

Well I bet its tasty but it would kill me from the nuts. Im allergic. Tasty cake of death :D
Oh frak me!!! But I do have one of those plastic like table cloths...The cloth must be closely woven cotton. It must grip the dough, but not allow it to stick to the cloth. You actually dust the cloth with flour to further tighten up the weave of the cloth, and to insure the dough will not stick. For many bakers, myself included, the only thing your cloth is used for is potica and strudel, both of which use the cloth to roll the dough onto itself. Confused enough?
