So what get your goat? Here is a thread to vent those little trivial things that make you want to bust some heads:bangin:
I cant stand people who seem to be reprogramming a satellite from an ATM.... get your money and move on people... its not a video poker machine and there are 10 people behind you:angry:
I also hate bartenders who chat with their friends and screw around with their i-pods:whistle: and neglect the customers.... your working not getting paid to hang out in a bar... stop flirting withe the dude/chick over there in the ironic band shirt and get me a beer sweetheart/buddy. drunk bartenders also irk me.
I can't stand politicians who think they are economists, when in fact they are nothing more than thieving Socialist bastards. i'm talking specifically about the Messiah's Pork-U-Lus package that our kids and grandkids will be burdened with for the next 50 years just so these Pinkos can entrench themselves in bigger and more intrusive government. Even more insane are the people who think this a good thing, and will be led over the edge of the cliff like so many sheep being led to the slaughter.
Wake up America, and get your head out of your ass.

How about celebrities (actors, musicians, etc) who suddenly become experts on all things political around election time? I've managed to somehow survive nearly 50 years without advice from Susan Sarandon, Matt Damon, Alan Alda, "Puff" daddy (or whatever he's going by this week) and the rest of the Hollywood "think-tank" (seems like an oxymoron).
If they are truly interested in helping me out, they can feel free to pick up my mortgage!!

Never felt bothered by the Hollywood crowds political views or for that matter most people's views. Now with that said I am don't agree with anyones views completely as it is all opinions which every one has and is entitled too.
Now here is a real pet peeve of mine and one reason why I don't eat in restaurants unless forced too. Food plated in a pile with sauce or some other crap drizzled around it. I like to know what I'm eating in every bit and like a portion that will fill me up. I'm sick of getting child portions for adult rates. Now does this picture picked at random demonstrate what I mean.

Seriously though.
It's all a matter of taste. I actually like modern food like that and can deal with the portions for what they are. Certain foods, even though deliscious, you just do not want/need to eat a plate full. The one thing I do not like about modern dishes like the one you posted is the up-tight service that comes with it.
At the same time, I could eat a mountain of lasagna.
Let me see it looks like two seared scallops a piece of fried salami on lettuce. It probably cost $50 a bite which is probably 3 or 4 bites.

Ok... here is how I see it, when I shop at the grocery store, I'm aware that I am not the only one there so I do watch for people and get out of their way when I see them coming. Since I go through the trouble of trying to be courteous to others while I am shopping, I expect the same. I have had people even look at me as I am coming and just stand there with their cart sprawled across the aisle. I'm usually very nice, but after a bit... I do tend to get irritated with folks.
OH OH OH... I was shopping one time and my cart was full and heavy... so I'm trying to push this monster and this ding-dong came flying out of the aisle with his cart (on his cell phone) and turned right in front of me, making me stop. All he had to do is wait till I got by! I almost chased him down... I was gonna run his azz over with my cart!!!

I remember growing up with the family biz. We thought we were hot stuff because whe had beepers! A box the size of a cash register that would beep and blink a red light. No screen...no number to call. You just called the office number when it went off.
Our first cell phone looked like this.....

It's ok... at least you admit it. Hell, I can't find my cell half the time and leave it at home usually. So I miss what few calls I do get.
Well I had 3 son's and a daughter but in those days only hard line telephones where available. I had a set rule in my house no phone calls made or received after 9 PM. Well I got woke up at 11:30 one evening by some 12 year old girl wanting to speak to my son. I was polite and told her he as in bed asleep and to call back before 9 PM the following day and hung up. The phone woke me up again about 1 AM and when I answered I go the blast of an air horn in my ear, end of phone for the next 14 years. I tore the phone off the wall and the lines out of the house at before I went to back to bed. Needless to say to this day I see someone with one of those hand held air horns I want to give them a free full contact karate lesson.

I am so cracking up here!
I love your style. That would be me to a T!
I did the opposite one time though.
In '90, I bought a Ford f250. With lift kit and snowplow, and big tires, it looked awesome.
Well living in Jersey at the time, with all the congestion, and absentminded drivers using cellphones, limo drivers coming out of "the city" and not knowing where the hell they were going, and buses & SUVs you can't see thru, that truck was a deathtrap. Not ever having a vehicle with front wheel drive, I didn't know how that functioned. Boy, in any vehicle without weight in the back, that was the worst idea in engineering history!
So, often having to jam on the breaks for moronic drivers, I'd press on the horn to no avail. They were all
in la la land.
But I got em good.
I had a friend install a dual horn airhorn wired to a button/switch to the left of the
stearing wheel. L O L!!!
I know know I could have cause a couple old ladies coronaries, but boy was it fun to press
that button and resurrect a # of braindead souls!
Little did I know how much worse drivers are here.
(Sure wish I had that truck again!)
Thoughts of retroactive birth control still cross my mind from time to time, even now that they are grown with kids of their own.

My pet peeve, and it really really ticks me off, are those nut case drivers out on the road. Just the other day a woman in a minivan turned as I was coming down the road, I was so close when she did it I had to swerve into the other lane to avoid her... and guess what she did? Moved right over into the lane I had moved into! So I end up half way on the medium. When I look over at her, she is on the phone looking at something to her left.... she never even looked at traffic and no idea I was there.... until I let her have it with my horn.
Then I decided to have some fun with her, so I followed her around for awhile, and every time she looking in her mirror at me I gave her an evil look. She finally pulled into a parking space in front of a salon, so I stopped, gave her the 'I'm watching you' gesture, and drove off.
Even worse are the guys who think they are on a race track not a road. Or the ones that are in the left lane and speed up to get ahead of you just so they can turn into your lane, then slam on the brakes to make a right turn! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

Mav. No one, NO ONE, from up north uses signals when they come down here for "SEASON". Add that to all the native morons.
They are too encumbered with cell in one hand, wheel in the other.
One time when I was with the dad, we happened to go the same place the screwy (not-ing) driver in front of us wound up. We got to the entrance to the place the same time as him and dad says, "excuse me, I see you're from (I won't say as to not offend any of my buds here). Nice car. Hey, since I haven't been up north since '85, you
mind if I ask you a question?"
The guy looked alittle impatient, but said, "no".
Dad says, "well I was wondering, do they now charge extra up there for directional signals and such?"
Again the guy says, "no.", more impatient.
Then dad says, "well then use your Fxxkin' signal."
The guy walked away in a huff. Tuff shit.
Now you gotta understand, I am not my father's daughter.
He's quiet, unassuming, never gets excited. I NEVER hear him curse. He was really angry and I didn't know it.
But LOL! he's one COOL DUDE!
Then last week I get an older woman behind me driving to beat the band. When I first see her she's at least a 1/2 mile behind me. Next thing OMG, where'd
her car go? All I see is glass and her eyeballs and feel something funny on my bottom! NO JOKE! She's riding my tail like I was a wheelbarrow. I'm doing almost 40 in a 30 mph zone. It's residental.
We get to the light where the road opens to 3 lanes each way. I go to make a right and stay on the right to go to the local supermarket and she stays behind me doing the same damned thing. What the what? Did she have the Fu*king Publisher's Clearing House Giveaway to give me or what?
So I do my parking and note where she went. I go in and do my little shopping, then I start hunting for my prey. LOL! I find her at the crowded deli counter.
Perfect!!! MAKE MY DAY!!!
I says loudly,(lol)"Who the hell gave you your driver's license? What the hell did you think I was doing waving to you to back off and tapping my brake lights? Drying my fingernails" On & on I went about 40 in a 30 mph residential blah, blah, blah.
Then I said, "When I can't see you headlights for a whole 2 miles in my rearview mirror, you're driving too
fu*cking close. BACK OFF."
Everyone who was pre-occupied with anything was listening.
Ya know what the weasel said? I'm asking, "DO YOU KNOW WHAT SHE SAID?"
"Oh, I didn't realize." THAT"S IT!!!
Oh, if I had a bat. OMG!

Mav. No one, NO ONE, from up north uses signals when they come down here for "SEASON".!
Signaling is so '90s
Something I will never miss about south Florida is the little old people driving those huge old cars that can's see over the dash at 5 mph on the express ways. Take a ride through West Palm Beach or points south to see what I mean.

I've probably been behind her then. :w00t2:

I don't care for people who are visiting the folks across the street and park in front of my house. Why not park in front of the house you are visiting? This way if someone comes to visit me, they don't have to park down the street...
If you have to shovel snow along your sidewalk, please don't stop at the neighbour's line...leaving tiny little mountains like speed bumps along the way..go ahead and shovel on through:wink:
Cell phone users who distract their phone conversation by driving a car.
Gas and delivery surcharges. C'mon people, gas is down as low as it's ever been...how about pulling back those ridiculous surcharges?
Paying to check your suitcase. You know what...I'll do without your meager doling of petrified granola bars and tepid coffee if you'll agree to check my damn bag for free.
Boogie boarders who boogie board in a swim only surf...Oh yea, johnny dimwit has real control over that thing when there's a huge wave beind him. I love having your nuisance of a child constantly slamming eco unfriendly chunks of styrofoam into my back.
'do you want paper or plastic or both?'...geezelouise, people, get with the program and get yourselves some canvas reusable bags already. I live for the day when supermarkets start charging 5 cents for each bag of theirs you use. I apprecaite the nickle I save by bringing my own bags. Keep it till it totals a standing rib roast, and then let me walk out with that while whistles and bells toot and toll. Maybe then people will get the picture. And no, I don't buy how you reuse all the plastic bags for this that or the other thing...With the exception of picking up the poop, there is nothing you need a plastic bag for that a reusable bag cannot handle. As for the poop.....
When are they going to invent some powder that you can sprinkle on your pup's poop that will make it disintegrate?? Yea, we can clone sheep and cows that the majority of society would be scared to death to eat...but we cannot make dog poop disappear.
And for the smokers out there The earth is not your ashtray! Quit tossing your coals out your car windows and all over the sidewalks. It's the epitome of 'I don't give a shit how I effect the environment' attitude and it sucks.

"Locked thread"
You know which one really ticked me off, and there was ABSOLUTELY no call for it, the BBQ vs. Grilling thread. There was a decent discussion going on about who calls what what in different cultures. Then a mod comes in and locks it because they didn't agree with what was being written. So pathetic.

What about people who blow their nose in the middle of the restaurant instead of going to the bathroom to do so? That is the most disgusting thing ever.
Using the restroom anywhere in public and people not washing their hands. I mean seriously? My children (4 & 8) wash their hands after wards and when we leave the bathroom, if there are the air dryers instead of paper towels, they pull their sleeves down to grab the door handle or they use the paper towel to open it. That is so gross. Can you tell I have a phobia of public restrooms?

LOL!! DH and I were just talking about this when we went out to eat earlier. I sneezed and the ladies in the booth next to us immediately started talking about blowing your nose at the table of resturaunts. I don't like it either and would prefer that one gets up and excuses themselves to the restroom. But I guess these ladies thought I blew my nose or something... I wanted to reach over and slap em!

OMG that just happened when we went out to dinner tonight. First it was the guy at the table and about 10 minutes later it was the woman. I'm talking honkin blowing noses. They were sitting at a table that couldn't have been more than 6 steps to the restroom!! My dh had to hold me back, because I normally will say something. We were about 4 tables over and if they would have been closer :censored:.

Ok... here is how I see it, when I shop at the grocery store, I'm aware that I am not the only one there so I do watch for people and get out of their way when I see them coming.
What's even more fun, pull over so as not to block anyone then have a woman run smack ass into the back of you nearly knocking you down , then stop and start yelling at you for getting in her way!!!

Quit worrying about everybody else and do something to change your own situation.Yeah, getting pissed is OK for about 30 seconds, then it's time to move on and create something for yourself. Don't know what to do? Go to the library and check out the book What Color is Your Parachute. Read it, follow its instructions, and you'll be more focused than you ever were in your life. Or, you can sit around and piss & moan about the limp-wristed punk who's daddy got him a job but didn't give you one.
Huh? Not to sure where youre coming from but I dont like people that get jobs because their daddy is a friend and the kid is not qualified.

Wow, thanks for the heads up. On my oldest board, we could delete posts any time we wanted. I didn't know there was only an hour to do so here.
You should have that in all caps:
THINK BEFORE YOU POST ONLY 60 MINUTES TO CHANGE YOUR MIND AND DELETE WHAT YOU HAVE WRITTEN.
Doc, do you think you can alter that slightly? If we really are sorry for something that we have posted could we ask you to kindly delete something? I don't think I would want my stupidity and errors to be seen in perpetuity.
Edited to add: I see a big difference between a mod deleting a post or thread that I have written than my being able to self-edit myself.

I'm peeved by automated telephone systems that there is no way to get to a human. I'm even more peeved when I reach a human only to find out that for them, english is a foreign language, and no matter what you tell them, they have canned responses and cannot handle the problem as well as the computer could - if it could. Chat sessions are almost as bad.
As far a friends finding jobs, I have two very good friends (also extremely competent) from my last company, whose former co-workers or supervisors went expressley looking for them to fill jobs for which they were uinquely qualified. In both cases, the jobs came seeking them.
It seems to me that more jobs are found these days through networking than through newspaper ads, monster, or other methods where the parties are unknown to each other. I have been able to help several workers who were laid off to find jobs through my personal contacts. YMMV.

I hear ya, Fred. You push half a dozen buttons to get a person, and then you can only hope their accent isn't too heavy when you do.
If I had my say in automated response systems they would start out with, Press one for English, Press two to disconnect until you learn how.
And I hate the "tiered" tech support system. I know how to unplug my TV and plug it back in. I pressed 4 for tech support because that's who I wanted. Not customer support until they realize my problem needs "escalated" to someone who knows what they're doing.... Sheesh....
I just love it when the this is Ahmad just call me Fred. I actually get Dell's America side since I purchase my office computer though their business side which is always someone here. The home side and you get India or Pakistan mostly. DirecTv seems to always be in the states but then we have a business account with them too.

I am a liberal who is thrilled that we have an intelligent person in charge now. I am neither a sheep, nor a bastard, nor a socialist, just someone who thinks your crass, Limbaugh-ish blowhard language is the last thing we need now.
I hope the stimulus package is reworked a bit, but we need action now. Your unregulated "let the market do what it want" ilk has had their chance. You have no viable options other than let more people get in soup lines.
Sorry you're so upset. I hope things look up for you. And I hope that those who perpetrated the incredible number of injustices over the last eight years never sleep well again.
Cheers.

ms_sue, I totally understand your political point of view and you are entitled to it but I would appreciate it if you would refrain from the name-calling. You could probably have an interesting discussion about issues with JoeV but once you start name calling it will degrade and just become nasty. I assume that you are an intelligent woman and can make your points and argue the issues instead of comparing JoeV to Rush Limbaugh.

YMMV.
Fred
Excellent points! Im despise automated systems that take a map to navigate! Also regarding jobs, if they are qualified they SHOULD get those jobs.
What does everyone think about those Red Light Cameras?

I am an Independent who has some experience with working with the White House advance team and have seen first hand how things are done to make this country work. I like to hear all points of view and love the market place of ideas. Rush Limbaugh is an entertainer who loves to bash and be mean-spirited. It is part of his schtick. I believe that JoeV is worried about the debt and that we are saddling our children and our children's children with an enormous burden. He perceives this to be the fault of the Democrats because they had controlled Congress. I don't agree with him. I think it is the fault of both parties.

So far as Telephone service WOW I am sick of talking to Dubai... and this is nothing against the individual human beings answering the phones they are just people doing a job but they have not been equipped to deal.... I need someone who understands me.. cut to the chase... yes I unplugged replugged ect they've been out 3 times this week here's what's going on... blah balh balh talking to someone reading a script who cannot converse with me, who does not even have access to the needed information is worthless. On top of this they lie... I have cought both Sprint and Earthlink in bold faced absurd lies... I no longer deal with either but Verizon has been no better.

on the jobs thing... depends
People like to hire by referrals... I have friends I would recommend because I know they are talented and hard working a personal rec can go far...on the other hand I have had several boss's son/daughter experiences that were pretty bad... all about entitlement non of the work ethic the original boss had but wanted all the respect... recipe for disaster. I have no problem with reasonable discourse. But I didn't see it here. I just sort of take umbrage at inflammatory language that includes "socialist," "pinko," and the ever-delightful "Messiah."
And I spoke my mind in the way that I saw fit with regard to this particular post. I really don't think that I was all that harsh. My words may not have appealed to you, but frankly, I can't help that.
P.S. The statement that the Dems controlled Congress is misleading. They Repubs had a majority during some of the GWB years.

In my opinion, a politician is a politician whether he is Dem, Rep, or Ind. They all lie to get where they want. I don't trust any of them. I pay my taxes, I pay my bills, I love my country. That is all I can do. I will support whoever is in office - but I do not have to agree with them. Am I scared? Hell yeah! Am I optimistic, hardly! Don't take this the wrong way, but Jesus Christ himself could be running this country and I would still be scared.

My neighborhood is flooded with red light cameras!!! I'm not sure how I feel about them... as I see so many people running the lights, it is absolutely dangerous what people will do to save a few seconds/minutes. But at the same time, I'm not sure that the cameras are the answer. Seems more like a revenue generating tactic to me.

Well for many reasons those things are against many State constitutions. There must be a officer that not only takes the reading but also personally give you the ticket.

I'm all for red light cameras! An amber light is not supposed to be interpreted as 'hurry up regardless that you are still half a block away from the intersection'. If you are not at the light when it turns amber you really are supposed to stop!
I wish they could rig the driver seat so that cell phones won't work in that small space. It would force drivers to get hands free devices that could permit the phone to be outside the box. If you hold it in that zone, it won't work. Barring that, perhaps the car won't work unless both hands are on the wheel....? Take one off for more than 15 seconds and horrifying alarms at unbearable decibles will peal unmercifully.
What do you think about motorcycle drivers who weave in and out of slow moving or stopped traffiic? Personally, I'm not sure how I feel about it. Sure, I'd like to open my car door when I see one of them getting passed me:poke:...but if you've got a small enough vehicle to get around the traffic without actually going off the road (like onto the shoulder) then why shouldn't you?
I do not see a problem with that red light cams (now that I found out what you mean ;o) )
If people drive too fast or cross red lights, it's their own fault and they shouldn't complain about that.
If they have driven like they should nothing would have happened.
using the cell phone without a - you call it hand free device? - hand free device is forbidden by law in Germany.
It costs some money and earns you some points in Flensburg (when you have a certain amount (17?19?) they confiscate your driving license)..
the same with that motorcycle thing.. it's forbidden but that doesn't stop people doing that.. we had it once in a jam at the autobahn that a motorcycler came from behind and the space was real narrow.. and if I say narrow, I mean narrow..
he had problems getting throught the cars, was about to touch the mirrors and when one car just behind us narrowed the space to make him stop in line he just kicked the car!!

Last night, I went to bed. In trying to get comfortable, I realized that my stomach was FULL. I didn't think I ate that much for dinner...
Well, after 2 hours of tossing and turning, if anything, my stomach was even MORE full that when I went to bed. Great........
A couple hours later, I hit a critical level and had to make a mad dash for the bathroom. Needless to say, I didn't make it. Now I've got a mess to clean up.
I went back to bed, still tossing and turning, but not quite as bloated as before. Around 0500, here comes Round #2. This time I was prepared.
I finally managed to get about an hour of sleep. I am NOT looking forward to working today.
I'm all for red light cameras! An amber light is not supposed to be interpreted as 'hurry up regardless that you are still half a block away from the intersection'. If you are not at the light when it turns amber you really are supposed to stop!
I agree amber means stop, not gun it. And I was for red light cameras until politics and money got in the way.
Cities can increase revenue by adding the red light cameras. Then, as with all things computerized the company starts tweaking it. What if we make the yellow light change quicker, They get more tickets. So municipalities have been messing with things to screw over motorists to make more cash. :pat: They took what could have been a good thing and tainted it with their greed, now I don't trust them. No easy answer for sure.
In Germany there is a law *again* how long the amber light phase is.. depending on the speed limit...
I have a bit of a problem with camera type ticket writers on a lot of grounds. First it is really unconstitutional in that you have the right to examine your accuser which it tough to do with a machine or camera in this case. Secondly supposed you lone your car to a son, daughter or relative and they get nailed, you get the ticket as they usually simply take a shot of the back of the car to get the license plate number. Again that is also a bit of a problem. Now if these things could be address I might trust it a bit more but for now I don't want to see a 1984 solution to our problems.

Reminds of something I read once, probably a joke or urban legend. It goes something like this:
Guy runs a red light, and the camera gets a shot of him. The police send him a ticket plus the photo of him running the red light. The guy sends back a picture of money instead of actual money. The police send back a picture of handcuffs, LOL.
A lot of the cameras around here are set back and aimed so they get both the front and back of the car.. the front as it comes thru the light and the back so they can get the license plate. This way they have a picture of the person driving the car.
Still not sure how it works when someone else is driving your car, but I think the idea is to ensure that you don't get the ticket if it wasn't you.

Actually I had a 60' Endeavor ketch for 4 years. Docked it where they did Miami Vice know locally as pear 5. Once they started shooting there regularly it was bit hard for a to live aboard it. I sold it in '84 though I never got to sail it much due to so much time spent overseas in those years. My wife and kids sure loved it. I did own a 2002 (model not year) BMW that I fixed up and sold. As for a liberal it would depend on what we are talking about. Somethings I might be more of a conservative than you and others like social issues I believe in live and let live as long as one doesn't try to impose their beliefs on me.
Red light cameras take the picture of the front of the car so the driver is visible.
I have an infrared camera system on my property that takes hi def pictures and it is still hard to identify people from it unless they stand directly in front of it. That is the point I'm making. We also don't have front tags here or for that matter any of the several states I've lived in long enough to need their tags.

Well as I said I traveled quit a bit in those years so I spent about a month a year there but it was very comfortable. Each of my 4 kids had their own rooms and shared a bathroom, my wife and I had a stateroom large enough for a king size bed and its own full bath. It was more comfortable than living in a double wide trailer or a travel trailer. It also had a fully equipped galley right down to a micro wave and satellite TV and navigation systems. I purchased it brand new from the builder and added many features to it. It wasn't cheap at all either.
One person could sale the boat (yacht if you prefer) from without pulling a single rope as it was all automated as far as raising sails and adjusting the masts to the wind. It also had a large enough diesel engine (volvo) that we could run it it a pretty good distance on the 400 gal. of fuel aboard. It was also capable of sailing around the world as it had its own salt to fresh water plant (400 gal. storage capacity ) aboard so we used it for showers though we didn't drink but we could. It was a hell of a boat. I'm also not the sailor in the family but my wife is though this one even I could sail safely without problem.

Personal? Perhaps. But it was very true.
I think the person who is condescending is you. You attacked JoeV's opinion and compared him to an entertainer by the name of Rush Limbaugh. Even Rush calls himself an entertainer. That comparison was incredibly incendiary and insulting which judging my this last post of yours seems to be your goal. You intend to get personal, nasty and get someone's goat. Well, sorry, I shan't take that bait.
If your desire is to stir things up just for the sake of stirring the pot, perhaps this is not the forum for you. I am more than happy to debate the issues and I might be sympathetic with your point of view but not your way of expressing it. Perhaps if you were not so rude we could actually have a decent argument.
I can tell JoeV that I think it is unfair of him to not give Barack Obama a chance as he has not been in office very long. One can respect the office and not agree with the President. I can tell him that Obama inherited a lot of problems that were not of his making and he might even agree. However, his point is that Congress has hijacked the future with all these bailouts is a good one. We are going to have to print money which will either cause inflation or even worse stagflation. Whether or not Obama does a better job is yet to be seen. I hope for the best. I was not a big fan of either Bush presidency, either. And I was very disappointed in Bill Clinton for many reasons although I can tell you from personal experience he was a very charming, bright, and charismatic man.

Anyhew, I got a damn red light ticket 2 months ago!!! $100 down the tubes.

I thought we had civil liberties.... but I live in Illinois so I guess law makers can go against whatever they want and make whatever law up that they want.
Don't get me going about being pissed off.
I was born angry!
Lets see, perfect or product.
>>>
Perfect ... I really didn't have a problem with the word Perfect till I started going around cooking forums. People in search of the perfect ... Oh, Please! The ones I really want to tear into are those who think they made the Perfect something. Honey, Buddy, if you think you've made something 'Perfect' thats only because it hasen't been critiqued by me. It may be damned good, it may even be to die for fantastic, but you think it's Perfect? THWAP , theres your dope smack be happy it wasn't a donkey punch.
>>>
Product:
I've had a problem with the word product for a very long time. Back in the '70s I think it was, I read a Royco column where Mike was making an observation on marketers, manufacturers, how at one time things had a name, how schools would refer to the theoretical item being produced was called a widgit or some other name but now it's referred to as product. How these people are losing touch with the real world and what they actually do. I thought it an entertaining rant by Mike, I understood but didn't realize what he was talking about.
Then in the 80's I read an interview with the head of marketing for the launch of Lexus in Road&Track. In this interview this person referred to the first Lexus as Product. Suddenly what Royco was writing about slammed home. I had been reading about Lexus since the announcement that Toyota annouunced it was going upscale, all indiucations were the Lexus was going to give the Germans a run for their money and the Head of Marketing doesn't even care enough to refer to the Lexux as a Lexus or even what it was, an automobile or car. It's a frigging product.
It's not that I have/had a particular of the Lexus, it's what lit the bulb.
I came into the middle of an episode of This Old House. I must of watched it for 5 minutes before I knew what the salesman/ representitive was yabbering about ... you take the product and spread the product so the product is evenly spread then wait for the product to set up till the product feels like this then you place the product (a second part of the process???) over this product and press firmly so the product is properly set in place then work the product with a roller till the product bulges in a particular way and there is a seepage of the product about the products joints and it will take about three days for the product to fully cure to a finished roofing product ... DAMN! He's selling something for a roof!!!!
As it applies to cooking, I've seen people write how they've done this work, Did this to the ribs (sic) and that and all the other stuff and , in the end, refer to their ribs as a frigging PRODUCT!
No, their RIBS.
Damn, somehow I'm burnt out on bitching about Product, Give me a minute, I'll recharge.

(I saw the episode too? Nice looking results!)
So they also had one of those 'reps' for epoxy floor coatings?
Why am I not surprised.
One of my favorite shows.
My grip with PBS is commercials. Wart you got me started.

No commercials during the program (so you get to pinch it and dance around ... well maybe not you, but I think you know what I mean)
Unless their doing the fund drive.
We have a DVR, it's the only way to watch television.
I could of made it worse with "You are the perfect example of a product of your environment" but didn't want to push it. So I did my job to help you stay angry.. :poke:

OK now Panch is PISSED:furious::furious:
If y'all have read the subtext of my posts (I know you are all paying close attention to my ramblings) you would know I have been working on an endless (mostly) DIY home reno. I have put a ton of money and effort into my house and also an involved in improving the community as a whole.
My latest project was rebuilding the back fence which was a poorly strewn together mess of chain link. For this I am paying a carpenter to build a nice thick solid custom wood stockade fence. The house and lot behind me were recently purchaesd by one of the worst slumlords in the neighborhood. They left it Vacant for 6 months gutted all the interior inclding fixtures and furniture into the yard and left it there and denied they even owned the property unitil neigbors and myself got the city involved
Now they have "renovated" and rented the house so I was having the fence built to have some privacy and to better contain my doggies.
Today they made my contractor stop working claiming he was building on thier land.
First of all this is not true the existing fence was in the wrong place.
Secondly why would you bitch over 6" when you are getting a beautiful and expensive new fence in place of a falling down chain link one?
Thirdly the part of my yard that touches their yard is facing the "yard" which is a vacant lot not the back of the house
So now its time for battle royale.
Tomorrow at work I am pulling the tax map.. they will loose yard because part of what they claim is thiers is a public alleyway. Also I am contemplating extending the dog run around the whole back yard so that they have to deal with my monsters day and night
I am really angry... I am spending my $$ doing something that benefits them and they want to give me a hard time....
ARGH one way or the other they are not getting something nice now... I really don't need this hassle and these people are among the wots
PanchoHambre
02-02-2009, 08:24 PM
ok something wroung with the puter
... worst in the neighborgood. They have screwed so many people over. I really dont need the hassle but if they want war they got it
Today they made my contractor stop working claiming he was building on their land.
Rumor from my surveyor is in Ohio (YMMV) the complainer has to prove the property line. IE: If I put up a fence and the neighbor said I put the fence on their property it would be up to the neighbor to prove the fence is on their property.
The tax map? Careful with that one. IE: We bought an adjoining lot that was listed on the tax map as 165 feet deep. We had to have the properties surveyed and replotted in order to build on them. Turns out the lot is only 162 1/2 feet in depth. OTOH that end of the lot abuts a county road with a right of way which was widened from 55 to 60 feet.
Now if you have pins the whole thing is moot. Go to the pins, run a string , tell them to bugger off.
Bad neighbors ... don't get me started!
Maverick2272

Honestly, as long as I knew for a fact the fence was on my property, I would just put it up and tell them if they don't like it they can file in court... most won't bother once it comes to having to spend the money and the time.
The reason I say make sure for a fact is because sometimes peoples first move will be to call the town and try and get you on some violation... so make sure your I's are dotted and your T's are crossed!
I ended up doing that with my nasty neighbor. I am sure you have all heard of a 'widow maker branch', right? Well our neighbors tree has one that goes right over our garage and in fact stretches all the way to our next door neighbors wires.
He refused to trim the tree, which we found out was his responsibility. Then we offered to split the cost, and finally we just up and said we would take care of it. He then told us we had no right to touch his tree and he would sue if we did. I said sounds like a plan to me, and we had the entire limb cut off just over our property line.
He called the town, they told him I had the right to cut it at the property line and if he didn't like it he could sue but they suggested he consult a lawyer first as they would be sure to tell him there is nothing he can do.
This guy is so nasty to us that now whenever I see him I ask how his lawsuit is coming along.... he just glares and walks away.

Wart and Mav
I hear ya... no we dont have pins and these lots were plotted over a century ago so its wierd.
I know from my deed that the line is not straight but the jog is not part of thier property it pertains to the alley which they do not own and technically I should have access through their property to the street and be able to put my trash on thier street non mine.
The jog is not thier issue and franly I measuerd and belive I am right. I will do as much research as I can tomorrw in the meantime the contractor will work on the 2 sides not in question,
My main problem is why bitch to begin with. They dont live there and even if I was building the fence on thier side of the line then I am building THEM a beautiful fence which they own.
Thing is I know they are dirtbags. They tried to screw over my friend who is building THIS (http://www.100khouse.com/) on my block... the alleged owner did not even own the property... dude lost months lost his financing etc in the deal... same 2 dirtbags involved in this deal.
I really wish I had the money to buy the stupid house when it was on the market
If they give me a hard time I am sending the inspectors after them though... I am pretty sure you bathroom vent cant be horizontal below the toilet.
ok on a number of previous posts
Politics... I am a Liberal I have hopes for Obama... I hated BushII lived in TX under him and saw what he was about early.... Still I am skeptical and watching closely... What I think we need more than anything is intelligent debate. The bush years were all about ask no questions... if the obama supportors do the same what's the point. There needs to be scrutiny and many opinions need to be heard,,, PLEASE hash it out debate discuss etc if we cant have diffent opinions what's the point... I always want to hear from those I disagree with that's how I learn.
ARGH
edit to add
on the jobs thing...
Certainly not a universal issue but pretty common.
my daughter just had a three day drawn out problem with verizon and vontage. won't go into whole thing, she was on a search for faster internet service, has dial up, lives in the back of beyond. before it was finished they had managed to cut off her phone. said eight days, she said, "i'll sue"" both her business, another job using net,
depend on both phone and net. she is also taking internet classes. they fixed in two days. she has no time for waiting for call backs or staying on hold forever. it is a wonder she didn't have a stroke. i called for her , and by the end of four hours, got a person, that said sorry but eight days, i told daughter i am to old to put up with this shit.
babe
My friend Frank was totally pissed off yesterday.
At just 3 minutes remaining in the Super Bowl yesterday had the score remained as they were til the end of the game he would have won $13,000 in his company pool.

QSis, yes and no.
I've been partially bloated off-and-on for the past two days. I ended up hurling just after I got out from work. I figured it was coming, as the smell of food and the fryers was really starting to get to me.
I didn't really eat anything Sunday. Just nibbled. Today, I ate four pieces of toast and some coffee for breakfast. I was off-and-on bloated all day.
Tonight, the "product" (sorry Wart) of all the gurgling fermentation decided to exit my system. I've been off-and-on the throne for a couple hours. Getting to sleep tonight is going to be interesting. I hope I do NOT need to break into my MIL's supply of Depends just to get a good night's sleep.
What really gets me hacked, is that now THREE of the kids are projectile vomitting. Most likely, the remaining two and PeppA will also get it. I hope it's not tomorrow. We're going live with the new menu, and I have to go in (on my day off, and early, to boot) to help prep for that.

I have a gripe tonight.
Why is it that the usual cadre' of idiots who respond to your posts never read them before they answer?
Would it be insulting to ask them to turn down the volume on 'Oprah,' actually read my post--use a thesaurus when confused--and then offer a rebuttal pretending to be an adult without the use of smilies?
In the future, I think I'm going to type a thought, answer one question, perhaps one response to a rebuttal and then skip the rest of the thread. After page two, the time is usually wasted anyhoo.

Ok, here's how it went overnight:
We had one little one wake up hollering before we went to sleep, and then once or twice more during the night. I'm assuming they got sick and called for Mom, and PeppA was the one that got up, and their buckets have "gunk" in them.
Apparently, my daughter got up during the night, and polished off my bottle of Pepsi.
However, PeppA got up this morning, and started retching. Then she came into the living room to kick my rear.
Do we have a woodshed here, or a doghouse? Either way, looks like I'm sleeping there tonight.

I've been thinking about this all night during my drug-induced sleep. (cold meds). Why do health care providers go to work when they're sick?
My mom is in an ass't living facility and I went to see her yesterday. She's got an infection (won't go into details) and the Director of her section plus one of the aides both have colds. They proceeded to tell me how sick they feel. Do they not realize that most of these seniors have compromised immune systems and shouldn't be exposed to this crap if at all possible!! What is wrong with these people? My mom has to go through a procedure today with Hospice coming in and I need to be there. Now I'm coming down with something but I will be wearing a mask when I go in. I'm not coughing, but my sinuses and throat are killing me. You would think the workers would be wearing masks also. NOoooooooo that makes too much sense. I am just livid about this. Actually I am thoroughly pissed!!

Trouble with most healthcare facilities is that they're constantly short staffed. So for some, calling in sick is almost out of the question.
My wife is a CNA at a nursing home. On a good day, they have barely enough people to run the joint.

No shit - you ladies are absolutely right!!! The most dangerous place to be is a Drs. office, a hospital, or a skilled nursing facility. They will kill you if they can!!!!! I know I'm a little paranoid but I go to unnatural lengths to avoid all of them. But sometimes, there is stuff you just can't fix at home so you're caught between a rock and a hard place. Maybe they are like my previous employer, they give ya sick days but off the record don't ya dare use them or it becomes an excuse not to give you a promotion or pay raise. In the case of one of my co-workers, she did excellent work but was fired at the end of the year for using all her sick days (not that they openly said that but it was insinuated she wasn't 'reliable' enough.
I am not making excuses, mind you, but there it is as stupid as it is.

There's even a bill before Congress right now that nurses are behind trying to mandate safe patient ratios. I know they are spread way too thin and anyone who calls in sick when they are actually sick will be screwed for it.

Not pissed, more melancholy. My boys are still unemployed, no car, no place of their own, no girlfriends. The economy is horrendous everywhere and I'm afraid of what it's doing to their spirit!! I'm more worried about the one still here near me as this town is NOTHING but bars and liquor stores. None are hiring as they are all family run. Can't get him into town as I have to work and can't take off to get him to any interviews, even if we found someone hiring for something he has experience in or someone that is willing to take someone and train them. I don't care for Obama, but, if he can get the economy going, more power to him!!

I hear you texasgirl, it's so bad every where. I don't know how old your sons are, my son is 18. He works at Outback. Not the best job, but it's a job. In the past month he has gone from 35 hours a week to 20 hours. It barely keeps him in gas and insurance.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all that something opens up for them.

Hey mom, tell him if he wants more hours, McDonalds and Burger King are always hiring! The one on 44 is begging for people. I think once Kyle starts school - that's where I will be heading. I don't want to drive a 1/2 hour for $6 /hr. - I just want something to keep me occupied and bring in a little dough! A house with no kids - whatever will I do? Maybe I can actually gain some weight working there!
I feel for you lefty! I am on day 5 of this damn cold. It has since moved to my chest and everything tastes nasty. Both my kids are getting it, although Justin just has the runny nose and a slight cough so I sent him to school. Kyle on the other hand - the one who started this mess with a 103 temperature - seems to be getting the worse of it. Poor kid. Hubby still has it but I won't discuss him - he is a big baby.
I am also very angry today. Been doing alot of thinking - which is not a good thing - and I am just down right pissed. Ya know the saying when life gives you lemons ... make lemonade. Well, no lemonade making for me - I want to concoct an explosive.

Me, I prefer to mix the lemon juice with some sugar, water, and a couple of fifths of 100 proof vodka and through it in a keg :alc:
Me, I'm mostly pissed at myself this morning. Was talking to someone walking into work, and stepped right onto a giant ice patch.
What was the old Howard Cosell call? "DOWN goes Frazier!"

I took a tumble yesterday. All this thawing going on is leaving some real slippery areas.

Now I am totally down with that! Pour me some! And I wouldn't mind having a little of the above eye candy beside me. Love me some MacGyver.

OMGosh! Seriously? O.K. I was in an accident 2 days before Christmas. All the medical bills are coming in from the hospital visits and MRI. I just got a phone call on my cell - "Please hold for an important message from University Hospital systems." Piss off! I am not holding when you called me.
Yesterday, on my cell phone (which I only give out to special people) I got my 15th phone call from a lawyer since the accident asking if I have been taken care of and that I can get a full exam minus x-rays for free as a courtesy because they are so concerned as to whether or not I am ok. I mean really. Why does public records have to put your phone number out for the whole world to see? Besides the phone calls, I receive at least 3 letters from lawyers a day!

Homecook, if you son can afford to stick out (and assuming he really wants to), urge him to keep at it. January/Feb are usually the worst months for restaurants. Most folks are tapped from the expenses of Christmas, and don't have the money to eat out often.
Yes, the recession has a lot to do with that as well, but most likely, once the weather warms up, so will the business.
For example, we just got a warming trend here, after almost of month of cold temps. We had a rather busy weekend, both on the golf course and in the restaurant. Heck, even brunch was busy!

Allen, he is going to stick it out. If only because he's been there 1-1/2 yrs. and has some seniority. Also there aren't too many other places to go. It's not so much the business not being there, they've hired too many people the months before Christmas when they were super busy and now they're dividing the hours between them all to be "equal".
There is another Outback not too far away and his old mgr. works there now. He's going to see if he can split his hours between the two.
Thanks for your input!
